Joseph Todd Obituary

Published by The Culpeper StarExponent on Jan. 3, 2011.

Joseph N. Todd, Jr.

June 3, 1925 - Dec. 28, 2010 Joe Todd, age 85, formerly of Culpeper, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his loving daughter at his side. He was an only son born to the late Joseph N., Sr. and Edith Lukei Todd on June 3, 1925 in Washington, D.C.

Joe was an U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, Clemson University alumni, and Norfolk Southern Railway retiree of a long, successful career. He and his wife, Kathleen, lived most of their adult lives raising their family in North Carolina, Tennessee, Northern Virginia and Anderson, SC, moving to Culpeper in 1994. Joe had passed through Culpeper many times by train during his career, admiring the town and dreaming of living here one day. As he expected, many warm and kind citizens accepted them, so he finished his remaining years giving back in many ways to the community he grew to love.

Some of those contributions include: Serving as an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church; design of the first public transit system, so those without other means could get around; work on the Veteran's Recognition Committee; Lion's Club member; and many heartfelt donations of his time, smile, and resources to those in need who came his way.

Mr. Todd was also a 50+ year Free Mason of the Fairfax Lodge. He truly exemplified values of honesty, integrity and service and was very proud of being a Mason. A Masonic service will be held in conjunction with the memorial service described below.

Joe is survived by his sons, Steve and John of Virginia, daughter, Kathy of Michigan, and six grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Jordan, Adam, Courtney and Shelby, of whom he was very proud. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen.

A memorial service celebrating Joe's life will be held on April 30, 2011, at the Culpeper Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Bernardo officiating. His family will place him next to his wife, Kathleen, when the flowers are in bloom in the memorial garden they helped create behind the Presbyterian Church.

The family would appreciate the sharing of condolences and special memories through the church or online by visiting clore-english.com.

It is with a sad heart that I received the news of Joe. He was a true Gentleman and person of many talents. His dedication to his community was a blessing, and his finding time for his beloved golf was his rewards. I was very proud to have had time to know Joe and work with him in his Masonic growth. He will be missed...Dave Carter

Dear Kathy, Steve and John: Your Dad was my best neighbor and a good friend. He and Kat were the greatest. The "place" has been empty since he(they) left. He was well thought of by the community and will be missed. With deepest sympathy, Linda Cramer
