Sophie Elinor Brown Brewer Sophie Elinor Brown "Granny" Brewer, age 86, of Grottoes, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Augusta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

She was born in Lincoln, Calif. on December 30, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Effie DeGeus.

Mrs. Brewer had worked at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in the laundry department. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton, the Staunton VFW Ladies Aux., and was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol, where she served as the treasurer and admin-istrator. Granny was an avid gardener, loved to crochet and enjoyed traveling.

She was united in marriage on April 20, 1946 to Charles Henry Brewer, Jr., of Grottoes, who survives.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Henry Brewer III.

Surviving in addition to her husband is one son, Warren Andrew Brewer and wife Peggy Brewer of Taipei, Taiwan; two daughters, Susan Brewer Myers and husband George Matthew Myers of Culpeper; Mary Brewer Jeffrey and husband Steven L. Jeffrey of Grottoes; two grandsons, George Matthew Myers, III and wife Carley Myers of Beaufort, S.C. and Charles Glenn Myers of Culpeper and twin granddaughters Amy Brewer and Katie Brewer of Taipei, Taiwan, and three granddogs, Eddie, Olivia, and Jazmine Jeffrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Grottoes with Father Burt Sare officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
