Myrtle Bragg Obituary

MYRTLE JOYCE BROWN BRAGG Joyce Bragg passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 9, 2016 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. She courageously battled Leukemia for the past two and a half years. She was born on December 17, 1938 in Wilmington, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Pender and Kathleen Savage Brown. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Judith White. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Jack Bragg of the home. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lewis Sasser, Jr. and wife Terrie and Martin Alan Sasser both of Wilmington. Two stepdaughters, Richelle Bragg Dombroski and husband Ronald of Castle Hayne and Tina Jo Bragg of Wilmington. She is also survived by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Cory Sasser of Burgaw, Olivia Brooke Sasser of Cary and Ronald Dombroski, Jr. of Castle Hayne. Her two great grand children, James Brayden Young and Skylar Brooke Cotheren. Also her sister-in-law Peggy Bragg Smith and husband Brian. Joyce also leaves her loving sisters, Betty Cox of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, Yvonne Dill of Wilmington, Nell Gayhart of Jacksonville and Faye Burton of Watha. Her special friends provided comfort, care and love to Joyce: Nancy Jordon, Mary Jo Newton and Jean Baxtrum. Joyce retired as a certified Municipal Clerk and served New Hanover and Brunswick County and the Town of Northwest. She was an accomplished artist and many of her crochet designs were published. Joyce was a member of The Crochet Guild of American and in the year 2000 became a crochet and knitting designer. She had a gift for designing patterns and selecting colors which appealed to crafters at a national level. In addition to crochet she had a life long passion for gardening and a special love for flowers. She was an active member of her circle, Staton King and the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Craft Circle. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held on Monday September 12, 2016 at Andrews Valley Chapel on South College Road from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. Graveside services immediately following at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Brian Smith, John Newton, Ronald Dombroski, John Westbrook, Bob Jordon and Cindy Crane. My deepest sympathy to Joyce's family. I had the opportunity to know Joyce through working with the county and with purchasing her designs at shows and other locations. So sorry to hear of her passing.
