Even during the last couple of years when Eugene was battling mid-to late-stage dementia, it was clear that he had a sense of humor and a gentle spirit. I enjoyed meeting Eugene and Joanne at the U of M Wayne Caron Family Caregiving Center, the Gathering and Dr. Yu's exercise study.

I have fond memories of visiting Joanne, Eugene, Ihor, Maryna and the rest of the family when I was 21 (I'm now 43 with three children) and then again a few years later with my friend Kim. Eugene was a lovely, gentle man and it was clear what a loving family this was and still is. Nothing was too much trouble and my visits are among my fondest memories. Eugene was much loved and will be sadly missed.
