Wilma Rector Obituary

Wilma Rector God has called home one of the most beautiful angels He put on earth. Wilemina (Wilma) Gaberila Rector went home on October 8, 2008. She was born March 27, 1927 near Seaton, Texas. Wilma is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Frank Jr. She leaves a large family that loves her very dearly and will miss her greatly: her husband, Leon; sons, Kenneth and wife Julia, Harvey Lee and wife Sandra, and Michael; also her daughters, Pam Edwards and husband Selby, and Teresa Beaman and husband Bob. She also leaves grandchildren that had the best Grandma God could give: Crickett and husband Scott, Chelsea, Deborah, Aspen, Alex, Brian, Cari, Chanel, Russell, and Max, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jett, Colton, Dakota, Logan, Dillon, and Jordan. Wilma was part of a close family that she loved and always enjoyed visiting with: her sisters, Martha Tomek and husband Clem, Dorothy Drozd, Emma Vasicek, Helen Roberts, Margaret Sehon and husband Richard, Caroline Cottle and husband Milton; and brothers, Johnny and wife Rachel, Leonard, Rudolph and wife Ladell, Edward and wife Mary; along with all her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Wilma, raised a devout Catholic, was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church for over fifty years. Her love of God kept her strong all her life. She saw only the good in all she knew and had a natural love and great patience of children and as a young lady became a nanny in her native Temple area. She moved to Houston in the early 1950s where she met her husband of 53 years. She and Leon married on February 19, 1955 in Temple. Wilma stayed home to care for their children, and also cared for many other children in her home for over 40 years, treating each as if they were her own, including all but the two youngest of her grandchildren. She and Leon were active members of American Legion Post 83 through the 1960s and '70s where she was Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary. Wilma loved dancing and was a devoted fan of her husband playing music. She also was a talented seamstress and enjoyed bingo, casino nights, and listening to polka music. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Sara Westgate, Dr. William Inman, and Dr. Jonathon Klocek for their care. Also sincere thanks to Joyce Pulich, Hospice Austin, and Tonya Maloy and Janet Hellums of Robinson Creek, and especially Mary Alice and all the girls at La Contessa. Rosary will be held Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on N. Lamar. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on W. Oltorf with interment immediately following at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, or the charity of your choosing. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
