Abner Cleveland Scott Abner Cleveland Scott, 87, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Abner was born, the first of nine children, to Grover Cleveland and Ina Fay Scott on November 3, 1923 in McDade, Texas. After graduating from Elgin High School, he began working as a carpenter. Then during World War II, Abner joined the United States Navy Reserves. After the war, he restarted his carpenter career as a commercial carpenter, actively participating in the Carpenters Local 1266 in Austin for 50 years. In July of 1945, Abner married the love of his life, Juanita Snowden of Elgin, Texas. On July 2010, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Abner has been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin since 1951; serving as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and youth worker, taking the youth on 'coon hunts, hayrides and wiener roasts. In 1987, Abner joined the Texas Baptist Men Retirees builders (TBMR) to assist with rebuilding homes destroyed by a tornado in Saragosa, Texas. He continued his selfless service with TBMR, building more than 50 churches throughout Central Texas. In his free time, Abner enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and raising cattle on the family farm. He spent many hours volunteering his labor at the Youngs Prairie, Old Baptist and Oak Hill Cemeteries. Abner is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Harlan and Dan Scott and his sister-in-law Paula Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita, his sisters: Jessie Lee Edwards, Mary Lou Glaspy, Shirley Kruger (Lonnie), and brothers: Allen (Alma), Donald, Joe (Ann) and his sister-in-law, Mary Scott, his son, William "Billy" (Linda), his daughter, Sandra Freitag, his grandchildren: Shelley Cotten (Dean), Shannon, Scott and Sherrill Mogonye, his great-grandchildren: Lindy and Brooke Cotten, Aaron Ruddell (Amanda), Jason Mogonye and James Ray, and his great-great-grandchild, Carson Ruddell, and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 4th. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Elgin, 205 West 2nd Street, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5th with Brothers' Dave Scott and Dwight Reagan officiating. Interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the
