Little brother, I still have a hard time just saying your name without becoming emotional. I love you and will miss you so much. I do thank God for the time we had together this pass Thanksgiving and Christmas and the days you stayed with me while going for your appointments at MD Anderson and that I was with you when you left us. That is a gift I will treasure forever. Sleep without pain my darling brother.

I first met Gary when we were neighbors, on Avenue D back in the 1970s. I realize now that I only had a few pieces to the puzzle of his life. Having attended his remembrance, listening to some of his other friends, I have a more complete picture now of his mercurial and vibrant personality. But we agreed that no one has all the pieces to that puzzle - not even Gary.

I met Gary in 1977, when I was hired as a laborer, for a large apt complex being built in the hills of Austin. Gary was the assistant superintendent. This was a whole new world to me, and Gary made the hard work fun for all us lowly laborers. Just keeping up with his fast walking was quite a workout!
My sympathy goes out to Pat, Marianne, and all the Etie family. I feel that Gary lives on in the fond memories of many people. And his soul in Marianne, the sweet and lovely daughter he and Pat joined together to bring into this world.
Sincerely,
John Lamar Floresville TX

One of the most positive things I can take out of our loss, is that it reminds me like a punch in the face, that our time here is so precious and that there is so many trivial things that I squandered time on when I could have picked up the phone and called my brother to talk and catch up on what was going on in our lives. I let the separation of geography come between us, with Gary having left Beaumont after high school. And now he's left us and there's nothing I can do but express my regrets. I can only say to anyone who reads this, your faith and your family should always be kept in the forefront of our daily lives. Take a minute, pick up the phone, stay in touch, tell those who are important in our lives that we love them and are thinking about them. Remember we are all here for just a sliver of time and it indeed is precious. I love you brother.

Pat - Gary made us believe in social media- he gave you and me the Facebook/Twitter push we needed. I will miss knowing he was always there at the other end of an email when I needed help (and humor and music). You and your family are in my thoughts all the time. Love, Linda

We are Pat's family living in France, an important part of Gary's network. He dearly loved to be with us in Normandy and Paris and finding traces of his ancestors in the Pyrenees, digging up clues to his past. He went to Honfleur and the villages his family lived in before setting out on their historical journey to America from their homelands.There are many of us in France who salute the passing of Gary and send out our heartfelt sympathy to Marianne our cousin and niece and Pat our sister but also to his own family here in the US, some of whom we have had the pleasure of meeting if only sadly under these circumstances. I wish to mention the following people in France and England who wish to express their sympathy;
Laurent and Eli Chen and their boys Elliot and Marius in Mathieu Normandy, Ashley and Cheryl Chen and Kai, in Paris, Peter and Sheridan Steven in Paris, Rosalind Steven in London, John and Cathy Hillman Steven in Maizieres Normandy, Domitien and Jorunn Chen and their children Thomas, Rufus and Eowyn in Epsom, London. Jeannie Trebutien in Paris , to mention only a few - Au revoir Gary , adieu

I met Gary in late 1972 early 1973 in Arlington Texas. He was the one that introduced my to music such as Bob wills. Over the years we kept in contact even after I moved back to CA. Loved his wit and humour and of coarse his passion for life. Gary I will always hold your friendship as a highpoint in my life. Organize that Rock-n-Roll in heaven show as only you can do ! Miss you on FB Brother !
