Steve Newton Obituary

Steve W. Newton Steve had a larger than life personality, with an enormous amount of compassion, a creative imagination and so wonderfully talented. To his wife, family and friends, Steve will always be a man with a loving heart. He was a passionate singer-song writer and formed his own band named "Heartdance" in the 1990's. He was a remarkable guitarist and even more amazing vocalist. He co-wrote songs "Lonely Silver Tear", "I Don't Blame You", and "Heartdance" with a country-rock blend that were perfect for the stage and radio scenes. He gave them to us as wonderful gifts of his incredible talent. Steve, to his family, will always be the rowdy comedian and sometimes exhausting energizer. He could charm you with his warm southern accent and strong laughter. Steve would get the party started where ever he was and loved to start up a Beatles harmony with his sisters at any family event. If Steve was in the room, he would be the first to jump up and help someone out. His high energy, and later his fast paced life style, made sitting still a rarity. Steve was an avid animal lover and gardener. Steve was a loyal enthusiast, to say the least, for the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys and college basketball. Steve was born in Homestead, Florida on April 24, 1957. He attended Lanier High School in Austin, Texas. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until young adulthood. He worked for Coca Cola, Montgomery Wards, American Delivery Service, Tracor and then was dedicated to Hull Supply for the past 16 years. Steve passed away at his home on December 27th, 2011. His devoted wife of 12 years, Jana, his little pal and 4-legged companion "Shooter" were by his side. Steve is survived by his wife Jana, his son Nicholas, his parents, Wayne and Nell, whom he celebrated their 65th anniversary with in Feb., 2011. He is also survived by his brother Glenn, sisters; Sandy, Dawnell and Chris, mother-in-law Janet and sister-in-law Jackie, and his brothers-in-law Michael and Jimmie. Steve was predeceased by his grandparents Harry and Mabel Swenson of Austin and Seaborn and Emma Newton of Beaumont. He was also predeceased by his Uncle Glen Lee "Butch" Tennill of Mathis and his nephew Richard Russell Loya of San Antonio. There will be a private memorial service at home for the immediate family. There will also be a "Celebration of Life" service for Steve that will be announced at a later date. We thank All Faiths Funeral home for their gracious people and services during these difficult times.

My sympathies to the entire Newton Family. I ended up going through hundreds of cassette tapes and found two tapes of Steven's music and made copies of them into CD's. Louis Wyrick and I talked about what a great musician Steve was and it was amazing to listen to all that great music. Hoping the music is still playing wherever you are.

To my old bubby wow this is hard, you and I ran that counter at Hull Supply.. You were a pain in the butt but so was I, but we always seemed to work it out.. We had lots and lots of laughs, cried alot and gave each advice and hugs. You were a very unique individual with lots of talent, work wise and music.. Steve you will be missed by many here at Hull Rest In Peace... like I used to tell you my brother from another mother... your buddy Yolie... Now you can see all your babies in heaven...

Goodbye my friend. Playing in Heartdance was an honor and a joy. Knowing you, even more so. The passion you brought to the stage was inspiring and your love for music was infectious. You booked us into some of the most interesting places I've ever played. It was a hoot and I will miss you and your smile. Peace.

My friend
In some ways we are brothers from different past.We laughed together, we cried together, we laughed until we cried and cried until we laughed. There are times I remember that make me laugh still. I will never forget you and someday we will laugh again. Keep singing brother. That's what you did best.

My condolences to the Newton Family and sadden to read of Steve's passing. Had Known Steve since Grade School. We remained good friends through High School, going our separate ways after, but would bump in to each other from time to time, catching up on all the years in between. Steve always had a good story to tell or a muiscal reminder to share. Goodbye, My Friend and May You Rest in Peace with a Song in Your Heart.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the entire Newton family. I will miss his laughter, the way he would quote lines from movies, singing songs out in the warehouse or wherever he happened to be and also his love for stray animals.
Base 1 to 106, rest in peace dear friend, your struggles are over.

I want to express my deepest condolences to the Newton family on Steve's passing. My family and I have such great memories of Steve. Being the drummer of Heartdance during the 90's, Steve, Brook, David, Jim and myself had such a great time entertaining all over Central Texas. He was such a great friend and an amazing musician! After all these years, I still hear the song "Lonely Silver Tears" sung by Steve and Brook. We'll miss ya man and so will Dr. Pepper!
