Charles Hard Obituary

Charles Griffith Hard May 25, 1945 - Sept. 23, 2007 Charles Griffith Hard, 62, resident of Austin, Texas, passed away September 23, 2007. Charlie was born May 25, 1945 in Houston, Texas. He was the son of the late Charles G. (Gibb) and Loretta (Cookie) Hard. Charlie graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1964. He attended the University of Texas at Austin. He went to Houston and was the production manager at Zero Process Company. He moved to Austin in 1972 where he went to work for Fox Service Company. In 1980, Charlie became the President of Fox Service and purchased the company from his long time mentor, Curt Fox in 1994. One of Charlie's greatest sources of pride was the company he grew and owned. He was especially proud of the employees that drove the trucks and the office staff that took care of the details, day in and day out. At no time, did he fail to appreciate the great team he had. Always active in the community, Charlie served on the board of Austin Crime Stoppers and was a member of Austin Country Club, Headliners Club and several business organizations. Throughout the years, Fox Service Company and Charlie made numerous charitable contributions to a multitude of local charities. Charlie enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his friends, travel and cooking. He loved to have friends over to the house to watch football and golf while he cooked. He looked forward to his annual trip to Acapulco, Mexico with friends and family. Loved by so many, he enjoyed still having lunch with his old Austin High buddies. Terrie and Charlie enjoyed their sundowners on the back porch. He lived hard and loved well and left his unique footprint on everyone's heart. The family would especially like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit of Seton Hospital who took such great care of Charlie these last three weeks. Their strength and devotion were a great comfort to the family. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Loretta Hard, his daughter, Carrie Hard and his brother and sister, Chris Hard and Kathy Dorman. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Terrie, his son and daughter-in-law, Rhett and Karen Hard, and his stepdaughter Kara Fredley all from Austin. He is also survived by his sister Sandy Sweeney and her husband Neil. He loved his nieces Melinda Krusleski and Michelle and her husband Chris Payne all of Houston, Texas. He was known as "Griff" to his loving nieces and Houston relatives. There are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins that will miss Griff dearly. A visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, on Wednesday, September 26th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A service will be held at the Smith Chapel at Riverbend, 4214 Capitol of Texas Highway North, Austin, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27th. Charlie will be buried in Houston, Texas at a private ceremony next to his beloved parents and family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Opportunity Austin, SAFEPLACE or the Capitol Area Food Bank. Obituary and guestbook online at http://wcfish.com

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of sorrow. We never had the privilege of meeting Charlie but our son - Glen Golden who works for Fox - had nothing but good things to say about him.

Charlie: I will never forget the first time I met you when you moved to Austin. We immediately became friends and I will cherish the memories we had as Austin High Maroons and then on to college as Phi Delta Theta fraterniy pledge brothers. We had a special class at AHS and again as Phi Delts and of course we always had fun. You will be sorely missed by all your friends but will always be in our hearts and memories forever! With Deepest Sympathy Your Friend, Tommy Harper Loyal Forever!

As a pebble tossed in a still pond creates endless ripples, you have touched my life and many others as a very generous, kind, and appreciative boss. You will be missed.
