Marian North Obituary

Marian Merle North March 12, 1929 - December 6, 2009 DALLAS - Marian Merle North, 80, a resident of Dallas died, after courageous and graceful battle of more than 30 years of cancer, at her home Sunday, December 6, 2009. She was born in Owensville, Missouri on March 12, 1929 the daughter of Washington and Sarah Wood. She grew up in King Fisher, Oklahoma where she also graduated from high school. Her parents died during her childhood and she was raised by aunt and uncle Hiram and Gertrude Henderson. Marian attended business school learning shorthand and typing to be a secretary. At the age of 19, she moved to California with only a suitcase in hand. She met Richard Edward North in California and they courted for several years before marrying on September 6, 1953 in Ft. Benning, Georgia. She was an executive secretary for the San Martine Winery CEO in San Martine, California. Marian and Dick lived in various areas before living in San Martine, Coursegold, California and moved to Dallas in 1992. Marian was an outdoor enthusiast with fishing, archery, golf and being a pilot. She loved to travel and she and Dick took trips to Alaska by boat and car, sailed around Cape Horn and visited Switzerland, Scotland, Canada and Mexico. She loved the beauty of a sunrise, sunset, wildflower and animals both wild and tame. In later years, she loved to play Bridge. She is survived by her husband, Dick of Dallas; daughter, Tere North of Macomb, Illinois; and son, Steve North of San Jose, California. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, December 11 in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Private family interment will be in the Dallas Cemetery. I will miss Marian coming in to get her hair done. Through the years we have gotten through some tough times together, having to buy wigs, when no hair was available. She was a very strong and determined woman, and I admired her ability to keep on with life in some of the hardest times. She will be remembered and respected by many!
