Joseph Gurnow Obituary

Joseph W. Gurnow passed away quietly Aug. 4, 2008. He was 88 years old. He was born in East Rochester, N.Y. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was commissioned in April 1941. During World War II he flew combat missions while assigned to the 9th Air Force in the European theater. In 1948 he was recalled by the newly formed U.S. Air Force and served for 23 years. He retired with the rank of colonel. In 1963 he and his family moved to St. Augustine. Joseph loved to spend time with his family and friends, and he frequently enjoyed a round of golf.

He is survived by his loving wife, Orleana (Betty); sons: Joseph W. (the late Judy) Gurnow II, of Deland, Florida; Mark E. (JoMarie) Gurnow of Roscommon, Michigan; daughter: Patricia Anne (George) DeLong, of Nashville, Tenn.

Joseph and Orleana together had nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 9 a.m. this Friday. A service at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joseph's name to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are with Craig Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Park.
