Guerle Toney Plowden, 91, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born in Quitman, Miss., and grew up in Shubuta, Miss. Guerle and her husband, the late Douglas Randolph Plowden Jr., who served as a pilot in the United States Air Force, traveled extensively throughout the United States. They lived in Greenville, S.C., and 17 years in Columbia, S.C. Guerle relocated to St. Augustine five years ago from Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.
She was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother, who will be sorely missed. She was also a longtime member of the Shubuta Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary P. Duryea of St. Augustine and Faye Long of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Randy Plowden of Shubuta, Miss., and Shepard Plowden of Papillion, Neb.; a brother, RL Toney of Shubuta, Miss.; and grandchildren, Ed Miller, Doug Plowden, Carmen Blakeslee, Leighanne Pierce, Toney Gambale, Ron Duryea Jr., Douglas Duryea, Kathryn Steed and Amy and Matthew Plowden; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Randolph Plowden Jr., and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Moss.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 28 at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian, Miss.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bailey Center for Caring, c/o Community Hospice of N.E. Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
