Margaret Hess Obituary

Hess, Margaret A. Peg (nee Engel) of St. Louis, MO, entered into rest at the St. Anthony's Fern and Russell F. de Greeff Hospice House on August, 16, 2012 at age 80. She is survived by her devoted husband, retired Circuit Judge Philip G. Hess. Also surviving are her loving daughters, Tess Brandley, Santa Rosa, CA; Cathy (Kurt) Peterson, Mill Valley, CA, and her loving son Philip M. (Teresa Mayhew) Hess of Sunset Hills, MO. She was beloved grandmother of six; Ben (Siobhan) Marshall, Denver, CO; Carl, Mark and Paul Hess of Sunset Hills, MO, and Lucy and Natalie Peterson of Mill Valley, CA. Also surviving is her niece, Linda Occhipinti of Raleigh, NC. Peg was the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Clare Engel, and was predeceased by her sister, Marian Starke. Her courageous conflict with cancer was supported and sustained by the love and affection of family, friends and the indispensable help and care of the BJC Hospice nurses and volunteers. Peg will remain in the loving memory of all who knew her. She was a culinary genius with her Wizard Book and entertained many appreciative friends and family with her delicious meals, grace and wit. Peg loved art, music and singing which influenced her family through two generations. Peg and Phil travelled the world and enjoyed our National Parks. Peg loved flowers and birds, became a Master Gardener at Missouri Botanical Gardens and fed her native birds for many years. She was a voracious reader as well. Memorials may be made to the BJC Hospice; St. Anthony's Fern and Russell F. de Greeff Hospice House; St. Vincent Parish Food Program, or the Cancer organization of your choice. Services: In accordance with Peg's wishes, there will be no services or memorial gathering. Private interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Crystal City, MO. Funeral arrangements are by Vinyard Funeral Home, Festus, MO.

Peg was my client at Ginger Bay and I enjoyed seeing her when she would come in for a haircut. Her great energy and sense of humor always brightened my day. She was joy to be around and will be greatly missed.

Dear Aunt Peg,
Joyous and happy the embodiment of you,
Always, aways a gorgeous smile,
You had places to go, things to do
Even though we were separated by many a mile,
I remember you, your clever wit and your amazingly rich voice too!
Your determination to always do things right,
What a glorious family you and Uncle Phil created!
I remember the family reunions, with Da and Granddad,
Seeing your family grow and following. your travels delineated!
I was 32 before moved to the 'adult table', ah, the memories had!
You were always an inspiration, you see,
Mother, master chef, master ..gardener, a quiet humor
This is just a little part of what of what you (Aunt Peg) meant to me!!

Love and hugs, Uncle Phil and family - continue to stand tall...
My heartfelt wishes that you have found inner peace in celebrating her and her wonderful life with us all!

With deepest love,
Shari (Hess) Lavelli Chicago, Il
