I have missed talking with Marty over the last 3 months. We talked about a wide verity of items when he picked up his coffee and snack. He had very specific corrections for the bridge that collapsed in Minn. and the ways to strengthen the bridges in Mo. Just two weeks ago I found out from a mutual friend that he was in a nursing home. I wish that I had visited him.

What a shock... Back in my College days I got sick and he told me to visit his personal doctor because the University could not afford to lose someone like me. We thoroughly enjoyed knowing Marty and Reva in the Old Farm neighborhood. We have very fond memories discussing a full range of technical and social issues with Marty. He was a good friend and valued confidant as we settled into St Louis and in the long-term as we lived in different places. We have the greatest respect for Marty and Reva.

I am so sorry to learn of Marty's passing. It is lovely to read the comments of Marty's colleagues and students, because I knew him mainly as a child. So it is my child's perspective of his kindness and playful attitude, and overall gentleness that I remember most. Love to the whole family.

One of my absolute favorite professor from undergrad and person overall... Such an amazingly gentle, good, intelligent, kind, caring, fun, open-minded man! I took 3 of his courses (including Vibrations) and did a semester project with him. I actually often think about him. May he rest in peace.

Marty and his family are all in my thoughts and prayers. Dr. Ferman was my professor at Parks College where he became both a mentor and a friend. I will always remember his patience and encouragement when working through difficult aerodynamics and design problems. He shared his time and knowledge openly as a gift to students.

Marty was the first engineer I met when starting my engineering career at McDonnell Douglas in 1976. He was a wonderful mentor to me and always so caring and willing to share advice. A few months ago, I ran into him and he did not hesitate to share more fascinating stories about his career. He also introduced me to the faculty at SLU which may lead to a part time teaching career (in his footsteps) at SLU.
