Joseph Salvador Giuffria

December 9, 1923-October 11, 2012

Long Beach

Joseph Salvador Giuffria, 88, of Long Beach passed away peacefully Thursday, October 11, 2012 in Ocean Springs.

Mr. Giuffria was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of Long Beach. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Holy Name Society. He served in the United States Marines during World War II engaging in combat at Guadalcanal. Mr. Giuffria was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from Civil Service at the Navy Base in the Public Works Department and was also maintenance engineer at the Holiday Inns in Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Giufrria and Mary Stupack Giuffria; wife, Catherine Lapuma Giuffria; four brothers, Pos Giuffria, Louis Giuffria, Eugene Giuffria, Guy Giuffria; a sister, Felicia "Toots" Verdigets; daughter, Linda Jo Lindsey; and grandson, Thomas Carr.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Rich) Ayala of Lapeer Michigan, Jo Ann (Wally) Lott of McHenry, one son, Joey (Lynda) Giuffria of Long Beach; two brothers, Salvador Giuffria of Gulfport, and Peter Giuffria of Birmingham, AL; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many special friends and family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October, 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach, where friends may visit one hour before the Mass. Interment will be in Long Beach Cemetery.

Uncle Joe was very special to me. I have many fond memories of him & Aunt Katie. They have a special place in my heart. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I know he, Katie, Mom & Dad are having a happy reunion in heaven.

We are so sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was such a wonderful and sweet, sweet man. Cathy I know how you will miss your dad, and our hearts go out to you and the rest of your family. I will always remember you by the Story of the "Fleur de Lis" that you gave me when Joe was in the hospital in New Orleans. We pray God's blessings on all of you at this time!
