Anna Blaize Obituary

Anna Margaret Benvenutti Blaize

September 8, 1920 - April 9, 2012

Bay St. Louis, MS

Anna Margaret Benvenutti Blaize, affectionately known as "Gam, Nan, GG", a longtime resident of Bay St. Louis, MS, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 9, 2012. Anna was born in the Bay on September 8, 1920, attended St. Joseph's Academy and was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Church. She followed her husband from Coast Guard base to base, from Pouquonck Bridge Connecticut to New Orleans to Mobile, AL to Astoria, Oregon, settling back home in the Bay in 1962. In the 70's and 80's, Anna opened her home and heart to many pre-school children who affectionately called her Nan. Gam loved to work in the yard and cook banana pancakes for all her "hungry kids". She truly enjoyed TV games shows, especially "Wheel of Fortune" and an occasional trip to the casino to play the slots. Gam also liked to travel and would use each and every birth of a grandchild as a reason to visit, as if she needed an excuse.

Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Emile Blaize, Sr., brother, Anthony Dominic Benvenutti, III, sisters, Catherine Kersanac Steele and Mary Monti.

She is survived by her seven children, Toni Wilbur of Pascagoula, MS, Leslie Blaize, Jr. of Portland, OR, Kathi Pastor of San Diego, CA, Jude Ferry of Bay St. Louis, MS, Niles Blaize of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tracy Blaize of Waveland, MS, and Kelli Hamilton of Bay St. Louis, MS; brother, Peter Benvenutti of Bay St. Louis, MS, sisters, Alice Blanco of Lima, Peru, Lucille Young of Ocean Springs, MS and Betty Protti Evans of Houston, TX. Gam, GG, lovingly leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Anna spent her last years with her extended family at Dunbar Village in Bay St. Louis receiving special love from the Staff and Southern Care, especially Liz.

In lieu of flowers, Anna's last request is to "hug someone and tell them that you love them MORE".

Private Services will be held at a later date.

"Ma, you are forever in our hearts and every full moon we shall see."

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements.

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Over the past few years, I was honored to attend trips with Gam to the casinos here in San Diego. Gam had such a quiet and calm demeanor, but quick and witty mind. Our hearts go out to you during your grief at her passing. May your memories carry you forward as they comfort you.

When "Gam" would come to San Diego, you knew there would be trips to the casino in store. Shortly after meeting her, I figured out that "Gam" was short for "Gambler." She was a gracious and kind woman who lived her life to the fullest. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

To all of the Blaize family I extend my sincere sympathy. My parents were close friends with Nan and Uncle Leslie when I was born, so they were chosen to be my godparents. Nan was a lovely lady and will be missed.
