Alice Grace Rosenbaum Pomerantz, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014. She was born April 10, 1924 in New York City to Sara (nee Gilary) and Lester Rosenbaum. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1940, attended Hunter College until her 18th birthday when she enrolled at Fordham Hospital and graduated with an RN degree in 1945. She worked as a Nurse Cadet during World War II and in 1946 on a visit to Miami she met the love of her life, Lewis Pomerantz in Hoffman's Cafeteria in Miami Beach. They were married August 23, 1946 and were married for 60 years. Alice and Lew loved to travel and did so often including an around the world trip in 1970. She was a respected long time member of the Pythian Sisters, serving as treasurer and Most Excellent Chief of her temple as well as Grand Treasurer and Past Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters of Florida. She was a life member of B'nai Brith Women International and served on their National Board. In 1960 she returned to school to complete her BSN degree from the University of Miami, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1964. After graduating, she worked part time as a nurse for Burdines Department store. Alice and Lew lived in Miami until 1976 when they moved to Broward County. She was a life member of the Israelite Center (now Temple Zion/Israelite Center) and in later years was a member of the Village Reform Congregation, Pembroke Pines. Beginning in the early 1980's, she and Lew spent summers in Franklin, N.C. where they attended Mountain Synagogue. Alice leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will remember her as an intelligent, loving, and caring mother and friend, including her two children, Irene Warner (Dr. Evan Katz), Miami and Edward Pomerantz (Dr. Helene Halvorson) Franklin, TN, three grandchildren, Geoffrey Pomerantz, Chicago, Illinois; Karen Warner, Miami and Daniel (Kim) Pomerantz, Nolensville, TN and three great grandchildren, Arielle Pomerantz, Chicago, Eleanor and Claire Pomerantz, Nolensville. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Pomerantz (2005). Special thanks to her caring and supportive caregivers of the last 5 years, Marion Green and Bernadette Young. Services will be held Monday, January 13 at Levitt Weinstein Chapel (305.538.6371), 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach with internment immediately following the service at Mt.
