Mark Gregoire Obituary

Gregoire, Mark Raymond, 66, of Coral Springs, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 after a brave, five and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mark was born in Ithaca, NY on July 7, 1945 to Kathleen and John Gregoire. Mark was the youngest boy of seven children and the third in his family to pass away from pancreatic cancer. His brother, Peter Gregoire, Peter's wife, Pat and his sisters, Emily Gregoire Huttar and Charlotte Gregoire Kramer were with Mark when he passed away. Mark is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean Wood Gregoire and daughters, Stephanie Jean Toothaker, her husband Peter Kemp and son Wyeth-Parker Raymond Kemp and Meredith Ellen Gregoire Tomassi, her husband, Ronald Tomassi Jr., son, Ronald Joseph "Trey" Tomassi III and daughter, Ella Jean Tomassi, all of whom were also by Mark's side when he left this life to be with his God. Mark served his country in Vietnam and was awarded several medals during his tour there. After his discharge, he earned a degree in accounting from Fort Lauderdale College and for 30 years, owned and operated Atlantic Bicycle in Margate, FL. During those years, he also created and operated one of the early internet cycling supply sites, BikePartsUSA.com. Mark was very active and well-known in the cycling community and sponsored many cycling teams over the years. Mark was a devout Roman Catholic and an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Coral Springs, serving for years as an Eucharistic minister and in the St. Andrew Men's Club. Mark was blessed by God and the remarkable health care providers at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, who gave him the spiritual, mental and physical ability to live for five and a half years after his diagnosis. Fewer that 6% of those diagnosed with this awful disease are so fortunate. During those years, Mark lived to see the births of his three grandchildren, to travel broadly and to enjoy life to the fullest. He also worked as a volunteer with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to help others stricken with the disease. Above all else, Mark was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Everyone who knew him held him in the highest regard as a kind, gentle and loving man. His family and friends will miss him but take comfort in knowing he has gone to a better place where we will all see him again one day. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2012, 5 to 8 p.m. at Kraeer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. A Mass of Christian Rite will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 9950 NW 29th Street, Coral Springs, FL 33065. Following the Mass, the family invites friends to a celebration of Mark's life at his home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation be made in Mark's memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. www.kraeercoralsprings.com.

To The Gregoire Family
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Mark was probably one of my favorite childhood friends. Although I have not been in contact with the Gregoire Family in several years, I cannot help remembering what a beautiful asset this family was to the community. They really loved the people of Trumansburg and it showed in the many acts of kindness they did for others. I know that they helped my family in many ways and the most important way was their true friendship throughout the years. I miss the closeness of our old small hometown. The one thing we still have is those cherished memories. May You Rest In Peace Mark.

Peter and Stephanie,

We are of course so very sorry to hear about Mark's passing. We know how difficult it is to lose someone as loved and respected as Mark was. He was a kind soul and gentleman and left us all a little better for knowing him. We're sorry we were unable to attend the service but want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Stephanie and family,
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I know how difficult this time has been for you and also how much you have appreciated every extra day you were able to spend with your dad. I can only hope and pray that the gift of the extra time you were given eases the pain of your loss at least a little. I know there is nothing that can take the pain away, but I also know from personal experience that the reason the pain of the loss is so great is only because the person you have lost was such a gift in your life. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I rode my first recumbent at Mark's shop and then he rode my Ti-M5 shockproof when I got it. I liked everybody in his shop. Bye Mark, see ya next life buddy.

Aunt Nancy, Stephanie and Meg-
I can imagine the ruckus that my father caused when Mark arrived in heaven. No doubt, Dad was the first in line, playing the role of big brother, cracking jokes and picking on his "kid brother." Fortunately, Ricky and Tammy were there with a calming influence. Heaven got even better with Mark's presence and we here on earth will feel the loss of a kind man with a caring, gentle spirit and an easy smile. I am sure that Mark had an impact on all whom he met and his memory will be lasting. We should all be so fortunate to leave this earth with such a reputation.

My love and prayers are with you.

I will always cherish our travels together and getting to do Board of Bar Governors spouse's activities with Mark. From Turkey to Nepal he was the best bargainer ever! He always had a smile and never a complaint.

Uncle Mark made a lasting impression on me from the earliest time I can remember. His softness, gentleness and kindness just emanated from his whole being. I felt good around him, like I mattered as a little kid. He was one of the only adults that made me feel like what I said and felt really mattered. It was important to him to connect this way with all of his nieces and nephews. I am sure this is why he has so many good friends and such a loving family. His memory will always live on in my heart. I send his whole family my deepest condolences. Love, Cally

Aunt Nancy, Meg, Steph, Ron, and Peter,
Uncle Mark was certainly a very special person. It goes without saying he was a devoted and loving husband, father, uncle, brother, and I'm sure friend. I will always remember him for his kind and gentle nature. I will also remember his wonderful attitude and spirit facing a disease that usually claims many so quickly and while saddened by his passing I am also proud that he was able to continue on with his life for as long as he did after his diagnosis. He will always remain close to my heart, the man that he was and know that he set the bar quite high in this life, as great individual.
Love you all,
Adam
