James Webb Obituary

James H. Webb, Jr.

James Henry "Jim" Webb, Jr., 61, died early Sunday morning, June 12, 2011 at his home near Sopchoppy, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, EDT, Thursday, June 16 at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Tallahassee. Family friend, the Rev. Allison DeFoor will celebrate. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. Mr. Webb will be buried privately at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Alabama.

Gifts in memory of Mr. Webb may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

A native of Jacksonville, Mr. Webb moved to Smith Creek from Naples in 1992. A veteran Public Defender, he was assigned to the Felony Division of the Public Defender's office, and practiced in the Franklin and Leon County offices before spending the last several years in the Quincy office. Previously, he had served in the Public Defender's office in Naples, Miami and Monroe County. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and graduated from the Florida State University College of Law. He was also a communicant of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.

Survivors include his son Bennett Charles Webb, also of Sopchoppy; and his mother Mary Alice Webb Barfield of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death in 2000 by his wife Judy Ann Webb; and in 1975 by his father James Henry Webb, Sr.

To Jim's family -
I was in law school with Jim and have to say that he is one of the few folks who graduate from law school and actually go on to live and "work" their beliefs. Jim truly "walked the talk". You must be so proud of him. He will be well remembered and missed.
