Herbie and his brother, Dieter were my friends growing up in a Astoria. A group of us from those days gather every year and we were sorry to miss Herbie whom we had lost touch with and then found, a few years ago. He was a great kid and from reading some of these eulogies, I can see he grew up to be a great man. Rest in peace, Herbie... I am so sorry for your family and only wish I could've seen you as a man.

I grew up with Herb in New York City. I knew him very well from ages 10-15. We played ball in a concrete schoolyard almost every day (he could run like the wind) and went to the same school during most of that time.
I never forgot him and I never will. Everyone loved him back then. He was one of the nicest and sincere people I have ever met. I was lucky to have him as a friend.
I was very saddened to hear of his passing, and my heart goes out to his family.

I was a crew member with Herb, 3 Feb 1970 to 3 Feb 1971. I'm trying to remember which VHPA re-union when we met once again state side. I know he was still working with the FAA, maybe was 2000 in DC? I will miss you and we will be together once again in Fiddlers Green; a special place in Heaven God has for us fellow Cavalrymen; B Company 227 Assualt Helicopter Battalion, 1st. Cavalry Division.

Herb was the model FAA co-worker: skilled excellence, pleasant, ever-helpful and kind.
From Winnie the Pooh...If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. I'll always be with you.
Prayers and sympathy, Jean Caruso

Herb was my trainer when I arrived at St. Petersburg Flight Service. He was a joy to work with...very professional but with a quiet sense of humor. As a Viet Nam era vet and former medic, I saw first hand the lives saved by the helicopter pilots. He was a true hero.
