Ellis Smith Obituary

Ellis W. Smith, 88, died June 8, 2011, at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart. He was born in Bethany, Okla., and lived in Stuart since 1991, coming from Boynton Beach. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. Before retirement, he was the chief financial officer for Reliance Electric Allegheny Steel and F.W. Woolworth. He was a member of Palm City Presbyterian Church, National President of Financial Executive Institute, Harvard Alumni, Willoughby Golf and Country Club, Canterbury Golf and Country Club in Cleveland, Quail Ridge Golf Club in Boynton Beach, Roxiticus Golf and Country Club in Mendham, N.J., and Mellen Golf Club in Mellen, Wis. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his master of business administration from Harvard in 1950. Survivors include his son, Richard A. McDermott of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; brothers, Elwin Smith of Melbourne, Travis Smith of Bethany and Francis Smith of Clarkdale, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris R. Smith, in 2007. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris R. Smith Hallowed Grounds Garden, c/o Palm City Presbyterian Church, 2700 S.W. Martin Hwy., Palm City, FL 34990. Services: A memorial celebration will be at 11 a.m. June 22 at Palm City Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Anderson officiating. Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home and Crematory in Stuart. A guestbook is available at www.heavencalled.com.
