Holland ADKISSON Obituary

ADKISSON, JR., Holland Clayton "Dutch"A native Nashvillian, died on July 1, 2013, at age 65. Dutch attended Parmer School, Hillsboro High School (1961-1965) and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration and Management. He served in United States Naval Reserve from 1968 to 1974, with two years of active duty aboard USS Saratoga (CVA-60), three years of active reserve and one year of inactive reserve. He was Honorably discharged in 1974 with rank of Yeoman 3rd class. A Certified Facility Manager at his retirement (RCFM) and a member of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), Dutch headed a professional Facility Management Consulting and Project Management service, having more than 40 years experience in Facility and Project Management. He began work after college graduation in 1973 with Synercon Corporation, later Corroon & Black Corp. and Willis Corroon, skillfully transforming and managing its facilities through multiple corporate transformations. Dutch was lead project manager of the former Willis building (now One Century Plaza) overseeing the planning, construction of 500,000 square feet and the final phased move to consolidate all the employees. He retired from Willis in 2009 as Facility Manager after 36 years of service. It was at Willis that he met his future wife, Mary Louise Roberts. Dutch was happy whenever outdoors, whether duck and deer hunting, fishing, or cooking a gourmet dinner. He loved his visits to Key West, FL, New Orleans and the Grand Cayman Islands. A man of few words, Dutch had a wry sense of humor, and was a beloved husband, a good son, and the favorite uncle always offering encouragement. He is survived by his devoted wife and friend, Mary Lou Roberts; his mother, Mrs. Holland C. Adkisson, Sr. (Mary), formerly of Nashville, now of Evansville, IN; one brother, Kenneth C. Adkisson (and wife Craig) of Franklin, TN; two sisters, Kay Lackowecki (and husband, A.J.) and Karen Fite both of Evansville, IN; sisters-in-law, Anne Meares (and husband George) of Huntsville, AL and Sherry Roberts (and husband Phil) of Ft. Myers, FL; nieces, Carol Fite Lynn (and husband Simon) of Nashville and Gracie Lachowecki of Evansville, IN; nephews, Clay Adkisson and Sam Adkisson of Franklin, TN, Max Lackowecki of Evansville, IN, Mark Meares of Huntsville, AL and Gordon Meares of Birmingham, AL. Will be missed by his beloved dogs, Rockie and Henry. Honorary Pallbearers are Phil and Kathy Neil and David Harper. Visitation with the family will be held from three until seven o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 9th of July, 2013 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Services will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 10th of July, 2013 at St. Augustine's Episcopal Chapel, 200 24th Ave. S., Nashville (on Vanderbilt U. campus) with The Rev. Lissa Smith officiating with visitation held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dutch's memory may be made to the Nashville Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2201 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37203; or to St. Augustine's Episcopal Chapel, 200 24th Ave., S, Nashville, TN 37212
