Robert "Bob" Joseph Forshee

Brentwood, TN

Mr. Robert "Bob" Joseph Forshee age 80, of Brentwood, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

Mr. Forshee was born in Farmington, MO, on April 14, 1937, the son of the late Lytle Loren Forshee and Faye Anderson Forshee. He retired from State Farm Insurance after thirty-six years of service and was a member of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ. Mr. Forshee graduated from the University of Missouri in 1959 and moved to Nashville to pursue his songwriting career. He wrote several hit songs sung by Etta James, Burl Ives, Hank Cochran and others. Bob loved spending time with his wife, his grandchildren and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife of over fifty years, Nancy Strasser Forshee; a daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Haukohl; two sons, David (Sarah) Forshee and Mark Forshee; a brother, Tom Forshee; grandchildren, Michael Forshee, Lucas Forshee, William Haukohl, Robert Haukohl, and Charlotte Haukohl; a niece, Cindy (Bill) Forshee Young; a great-niece, Lily Young and great-nephew Adam Young.

A Celebration of Life will be held privately.

Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 from three o'clock until seven o'clock at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.

Robert Joseph Forshee was known as "Mr. Bob" to me and he was an avid exercise aficionado whom I greatly admired. I met Bob sometime around 2010 at the Christ Church YMCA and over the ensuing years we enjoyed discussions of life, family, fitness, and spirituality. Mr. Bob was full of wisdom and kindness and I greatly appreciated the time he shared with me. His advice over the years helped calm a restless 20(something) year old trying to find their way in the world.

Mr. Bob spoke often about his wife Nancy, their children (and grandchildren), and his enthusiastic devotion to his family seemed endless. I know he loved all of you very much and I am so very sorry to learn of his passing.

He was truly a personal inspiration for living a happy/healthy life at an advanced age and I will greatly miss Mr. Bob. He will be on my mind the next time(s) I enter a YMCA and I will attempt to imitate his examples of friendliness, focus, and compassion. Rest easy my friend.
