It is hard believe that six years have passed since the passing of this wonderful person. Dr. Halachmi was a true friend and colleague. I miss his great since of human and we still get laughs reminiscing about the things Arie use to say and do around the office. He is missed each and every day at TSU!

I have known Dr. Halachmi since 1986 when I became the Office Manager of the then Institute of Government department at the TSU Downtown campus where he was also Professor. He was an excellent teacher and had an enormous heart. Although I worked with him for only a year before leaving the university, when I ran into him almost 20 years later on the campus as a grad student, he remembered me and called me by name. He also offered words of encouragement that helped me to get through grad school and I am forever grateful. He was an amazing person and I shall never forget him. -- Nora Brandon

Dear Miriam and family.
With sadness I learned from Peter Boorsma that Arie passed away. As Peter's secretary I have known Arie from the times he spend at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. My husband and I invited Arie a few times to have dinner at our place. We will remember him a very nice person.
We wish you the strength to go on, and all the best.

Dear Mirjam,
With great sadness we learned from Peter Boorsma that Arie passed away. We keep thinking at the times we spend together in the Netherlands, but also in Indonesia, Australia and Italy.
Arie was a very good colleague and friend. We will miss him.
We hope you find the strength to go on, and wish you all the best.

My husband and I were students of Dr. Halachmi's in 2006. It seemed everyone was afraid of him and yet I found him to be a gentle giant. He was such an intelligent person and loved to talk about his family. My husband and I are thinking of the family and say to Dr. Halachmi "you were a wonderful teacher who gave a wonderful insight to the true meaning of life and for us to open our eyes and see what was really going on around us and pushed or us to stay in tune to the world". Thank you sir for we will carry your words and teachings with us forever.

No words can adequately express the depth of sadness at the loss of such a remarkable man. I am blessed to have known him and to have benefited from his wisdom and guidance. May your faith and the love of family and friends sustain you through this difficult time and may you find some measure of peace in his lasting legacy of positively impacting the lives he touched and the world in which he lived.

Ari was a great man who had many friends in Miami. He will be missed. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived

In Dr. Halachmi's case it's easy to say he is the smartest person I've ever known. And I've been blessed knowing numerous intelligent people in Academia and in the workforce.
Little known fact, Dr. Halachmi told me he was in the Israeli Armed Services in the 1967 War. His efforts in academia and helping to reunite Jerusalem made us who knew him, even if it was for just one Graduate Course, better people, and as I was able to stay on top of Mt. of Olives beside East Jerusalem in 2007 - - - living in a better world.
We will be truly blessed in this country if one day, one of his Public Administration students is elected to high public office. That, more than all the election hype we see, will help fix Washington more than anything else.
Thank you Dr. Halachmi for the lessons you taught me. They went far beyond a classroom curriculum - Ira Leitner MPA Class of 2010

I was fortunate to have Dr. Halachmi for several of my M.P.A courses. Dr. Halachmi was one of the most challenging professors I had throughout my college career. He expected a lot of his students; you could never quite get the answer right. He was always pushing you to go further, think more, research more, and expand your knowledge. I appreciated his sincerity, honesty, and wisdom. His knowledge of Public Administration and his ability to be frank and honest about the good, bad and ugly of our field was what I enjoyed most about him. If you ever received a paper with a good grade, or a compliment from him, you knew you truly deserved it. We have lost a great scholar, teacher, mentor and friend. However, his contributions to our field will continue on for years to come. May your family find peace during this difficult time.

Arie was my mentor, a great friend of mine and of my country Greece. Arie was steadily generous to me, has assisted me since our first meeting back in 1995 and onwards without demanding anything else but friendship and fairness. Many of my students remember him and respect him for his courtesy and support. I will go on teaching and spreading Arie's knowledge and thoughts paying tribute to my great teacher and precious friend. My deepest condolences to Miriam, his colleagues and friends.

6 years removed from the MPA program, Dr. Halachmi is a professor I still talk about and remember vividly. Everyone has their own Dr. Halachmi story. He was one of the toughest and most challenging teachers I've ever had--making you think critically and work hard to earn your grade. A significant loss for TSU and future students who will follow in the program.
May his memory be for a blessing.

Arie has been a great source of inspiration, encouragement and support to us - his Greek friends. He advocated reforms in public administration and he always knew exactly what to say, mail or do, at the right moment, in order to keep us going, albeit the difficulties. Even in the worst of circumstances, in the middle of the crisis in Greece in 2011, he offered to come and give free lectures to 200 civil servants for a week. The high professional standards that had for himself and was expecting from the people he worked with, taught us a great deal. He nurtured us into the strong, committed and dedicated reform spirit that he was living by. All our love and sympathies to his beloved family.

Not long after Dr. Halachmi came to TSU I had the privilege of his leadership as my advisor during my MPA program. He was brilliant, had such as sense of humor, and provided me with much insight. His direction influenced my path in the child welfare field. I still remember when asking him a question he knew I had the answer within, he would just look at me until I began to answer my own question, giving me an almost smile. I am saddened to learn of his passing.

Dr. Halachmi made his mark on the world with grace and excellence. The impression he had on my own life will never be forgotten. I am proud and humbled that he was my professor in my PhD program at TSU. His high academic standards (he did not suffer fools!) and his "heart of a teacher" challenged, encourgaged and prodded me (as with all his students) to do well in our studies and beyond. But for the light of Dr. Halachmi, whose impact in the lives of countless intellectuals and students alike was deep and lasting, this world would have stumbled a bit longer in darkness. May he rest in God's eternal love. Shalom

Ari Halachmi has been my good friend for many years. We met through our involvement with the American Society for Public Administration and SECOPA (the Southeastern Conference for Public Administration), and enjoyed seeing each other at professional conferences through the years. His academic and personal suppport of our profession was reflected in his academic scholarship, and particularly his personal and professional service. He helped organize conferences, symposia and panels, and championed the recognition of our colleagues throughout the world. Like many others, I am glad I knew him, and I will miss Ari.

I am saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Dr. Halachmi. I joined the PhD program in Public Administration at the Institute of Government primarily because of him. He was a world-class scholar, and quite possibly the best that department will ever see. He was a deep thinker, an excellent writer, and someone who was never afraid to speak his mind and the truth. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

As a professor, Dr. Halachmi was special, challenging, and fair. I appreciate his guidance, wisdom, and mentorship. I was fortunate to co-publish an article with him, and the process was remarkable, memorable and very positive. We always talked about continuing that partnership, but unfortunately it did not happen. He was a dear, kind, soul and my heart goes out to the family during this difficult time. He was a very special man who will be missed.
