William "Bill" G. Neef

SCOTT - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for William "Bill" G. Neef, 85, who died on Monday, June 18, 2012 in Scott, Louisiana.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Reverend Gilbert J. Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church will concelebrate. Lectors will be Alicia Boone, Emily Barron, Megan Neef and Jamie Springmann. Giftbearers will be Leah Guidry, Elizabeth Barron, Ellen Chaney, Sarah Neef and Tara Branch. Phyllis Simar, vocalist, accompanied by Ron Moreau, organist, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace", "On Eagles' Wings", "Be Not Afraid", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art".

Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Hazel E. Mouton Neef of Scott; five daughters, Patricia Ann Boone and her fiancé Steve Greefkens of San Antonio, TX, Pamela Joan Neef of Lafayette, LA, Janette Lynn Neef of Baton Rouge, LA, Geralyn "Geri" Barron and her husband, Richard of Lafayette, LA, and Dorothy M. "Dottie" Branch and her husband, Jay of Lafayette, LA; two sons, William Stephen Neef and his wife, Claudia of Opelousas, LA, and Thomas Michael Neef and his wife, Michelle of Scott, LA; twenty-one grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and his brother, James R. Neef and his wife, Heloise of Lafayette, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James G. and Dorothy J. Campbell Neef; one sister, Ann Vick; and one grandson, Matthew Barron.

William G. Neef was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on November 21, 1926. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines proudly serving his country in the South Pacific. Following WWII he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Japan where he served as an MP. He was a long-time resident of Scott, Louisiana and a faithful member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Community. Bill received a business degree from SLI (now ULL). He retired from Wilson Supply as a Regional Manager after 30+ years. Bill's true passions in life were his family, golf, baseball and boxing. He always looked forward to the monthly family birthday parties and family trips. Bill truly cherished being on the golf course with his buddies, but he found real joy being at the ballpark. Bill coached Scott Lions Little League team for many years and the Girls Jaguars for 3 years. Later he and his brother, Jimmy, ran Lafayette's American Legion program. Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Ray Mouton, Jimmy Neef, Jr., Trey Pinegar, Christopher Barron, Michael Barron, Jonathan Barron, Beau Branch, Ty Neef, Jaren Neef and Jake Neef. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Branch, Richard Barron, Steve Greefkens, Chris Guidry, Joey Chaney, Jeff Branch, Eric Springmann, Allen Mouton, Jimmy Neef, Sr. and his sons, Bill Neef and Tommy Neef.

A Rosary will be recited by Reverend Thomas Voorhies on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille's SCOTT location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
