James Trissel Obituary

East Lyme - James "Jay" David Trissel of Niantic, died unexpectedly on Jan. 13, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 31, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of David Trissel and Sandra Mericle. Jay served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and the Rhode Island Air National Guard. He loved to cook and "trailblaze" creating different recipes.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Donna Sokolski Trissel; his son, Kevin Kelly and his wife, Shannon, of Newport News, Va.; his sister, Sherry Sears and her husband, Willy, of Des Moines; his niece, Jessi Wriggly and her husband, Norm, and their two sons, Kaleb and Mason of Altoona, Iowa; and his stepfather, Jerry Mericle; in-laws and extended family.

His stepmother, Glenda Trissel, predeceased him.

He leaves an empty space in our lives and will be sadly missed by all his family, extended family, and friends. May God give peace to his soul and comfort to those he left behind. May God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 56 Great Hammock Road, Old Saybrook.

Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the ASPCA.

I have just learned of Jay's passing. We went through tech school together back in 1981. He was such a prankster and everyone loved him. He used to march our flight using a Donald Duck voice. He still makes me laugh. What a wonderful soul. I still have photos of him and our little gang. If you are interested, I will be glad to send you copies. I am so sorry for your loss.

Donna, I am truly sorry for your loss. Jay will be very much missed by all who met him due to his humble, approachable, sincere loving personality, amongst his other good qualities. These made him the unique person he was. I will miss him and never forget him. Donna, its going to be hard whenever I ask or talk to you and not ask for him or talk about how you guys are doing. Donna, I love you like you're my sister, you have my number. Call me if you feel you need anything.
