Marsh Enquist Obituary

Mystic - On Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, our wonderful and unique Marsh Adams Enquist passed away at his home in Mystic.

Marsh wasn't born in Mystic, but he got here as soon as he could. He was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Wethersfield, the son of the late Arthur R. Enquist Jr. and Barbara (Griswold) Enquist.

He graduated from Rumsey Hall in Washington, Conn., where he held the shot-put record for 50 years. His summers spent at Giants Neck in Niantic and travelling to the Vagabond Ranch in Colorado were some of his fondest childhood memories. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He settled in Rocky Hill and worked for many years at the family business, the Connecticut Foundry Company, and later owned Alliance Personnel Service.

Anyone who knew Marsh, knew that fishing, in particular for Bonito and False Albacore, was a lifelong passion. He was an avid outdoorsman and a lover of wildlife, and the birds and chipmunks that he fed daily will surely miss him.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, biggest supporter and fan, Jean C. Hightower; and his two sons, Marsh Christian Enquist of Boston, Mass. and Brian Adams Enquist of Folsom, Calif., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, Isabelle, Ian and Adeline. He loved his sister, Gayanne, with an intensity that was a wonder to behold.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (O'Brien) Enquist.

He was the best son, father, husband and friend a person could ask for. His love for his family, as well as friends Danny, Andy, Brian, Crash, Dimi, Chris, Jack, Leo and many others, brought tears to his eyes on many occasions. His zest for life and his joy in the simplest things tickled us daily. He will be forever missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic.

Oh my, Marsh. I still miss all the fun we had! Great memories of watching the sail boat races while drinking wine coolers, and the get togethers in your yard. Hope you are having fun somewhere! Love you still.

I was on the Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba W-64 out of New Bedford, Ma. with Marsh back in 1965-66 era.
I recently came across an old 'sailing list' and found his name on it so thought I would google a few of the names that I still remember.
Very sorry to say all I found was his obituary though the description within fit him perfectly.
We were just casual acquaintances aboard the Escanaba but I remember him fairly well because of his friendly and full of life nature. Truly a great guy.

What a wonderful tribute to one of the biggest and brightest personalities I have had the pleasure to know and adore. My heart aches for those who are left longing to hear Marsh's laugh. My sincere condolences to the Enquist boys, Gayanne, Jeanie and Marsh's many dear friends.

I will miss Marsh's great sense of humor when along with Dan and Andy, "The Three Amigos", met on the deck at SYC overlooking Fisher Island Sound. Their lively discussions over a cup of coffee about boats and fishing along with life in general leaves me with many pleasant memories of Marsh. God bless you Marsh.
