Guy Bostick Obituary

GUY BOSTICK

WINTER HAVEN - Guy Bostick passed away at home Friday, August 28, 2015, at the age of 94. He was born September 12, 1920, in Hazelhurst, Geo-rgia, as the youngest of 11 children.
He was a self-made man whose principal focus in life was hard work and that, along with his business acumen, can be credited for his success. He was a man dedicated to his family, his business, the trucking industry, and the communities of Winter Haven and Auburndale. One day in the mid-1940's, Guy, a Florida State Highway Patrolman, traded his family car as a down payment on a truck of his own. By 1949, he was ready to focus on what would become his life's work. He founded Bostick Distributors in a small truck stop near Winter Haven, Florida and that led to the beginning of the Commercial Carrier Corporation fleet, which was incorporated in 1953.
While continuously expanding, he realized that there were areas into which he could diversify. Aided by his wife, Jan, and his two sons, Bill and Mark, Bostick created a company culture where employees are treated like family. Today the Comcar family of companies is involved in trucking, warehousing, truck parts as well as truck and trailer repairs. Comcar has grown from its humble beginnings to spread across the continental United States. Guy had a long list of personal and civic achievements. He was a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Winter Haven Hospital and served on the board for many years.
He was a past president and lifetime director of Florida Trucking Association and served as a member of the Governor's Transportation Policy Study Commission, Executive Committee Florida State Chamber of Commerce, member of the National Defense Executive Reserve, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Associated Industries of Florida, Board of Directors of First National Bank of Winter Haven, Board of Directors of Lake Region Yacht and Country Club, State Board of Education Study Commission on vocational education, Governor's Study Commission on Judicial Reform, TECO Energy, Inc, and Tampa Electric Company. He was a member of the Florida Council of 100, State Board of Directors First Union National Bank, Board of Directors Associated Industries of Florida, Leadership Giving Committee, United Way of Central Florida. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven, American Legion, Shrine Club, University of Florida Gator Boosters as a Distinguished Director, and was awarded an honorary membership in University of Florida Alumni Association and Florida Blue Key.
He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Esther Jeannette Bostick, in 2004. Guy and Jan were married for 62 years. They had two sons, Bill (Wendy) Bostick and Mark (Patti) Bostick; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt) McCulley, Kristen (Steven) Dotson, William Guy III and Logan Bostick, Elizabeth Huszagh, William Huszagh, Jean Bostick, Barrett (Anna) Bostick, Betsy (Craig) Wengler of Maryland, Jenni Lingenfelter, Scott Lingenfelter; 11 great grandchildren, Trett Ray, Trenan Ray, and Isabella McCulley, William Morrison, Trace Morrison, Jesse Willis, Taylor Willis, William Guy Bostick IV, (Barnes)
Mark Barrett Bostick Belle Wengler, Guy Wengler.
A memorial service for Guy Bostick will be held at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven on September 3, 2015. Memorial contributions can be made to the Winter Haven Hospital Foundation-Bostick Heart Center, or to a charity of choice. Condolences to the family can be sent to www.oakridgefuneralcare.com .

Bill, Mark and families,
Your dad influenced and helped more lives than most of us will ever know. He was a remarkable man, a great business man and truly dedicated to making life better for those he cared for. Among those was my friend C W Keith, retired Maj. FHP, also retired Director of Driver License served with Guy on the FHP and spoke of him often with great pride and respect for their friendship.
I value his attendance with me before the Cabinet as I retired from the Dept. Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles as Director of Motor Vehicles. He then hired me as the President and Chief Lobbyist for the Florida Trucking Association where I had the opportunity of working with him for the next six years. Our best to you and your families. We will miss him.

For years and years I can remember my granddaddy calling him Mr.B. I said granddaddy shouldn't you call him by his whole last name since he is your boss and he said Mr.B would not have any of that. So with heavy hearts from the whole Hutto Family and the Mountain family who has proudly been part of the Comcar Family for over 40 years between all of us that have worked here Mr.B you will surely be missed. You had the biggest and most kind heart of anyone. You went above and beyond a boss and a friend to help my granddaddy when my grandmother had her stroke. Our whole family will always be grateful for everything you did. To Mark, Bill, and Barrett I have been apart of the comcar family even before I started working her 17 years ago and thank you for having such a wonderful father and grandfather, know that he was respected by many and loved by many. Our deepest sympathy and our prayers are with all of you in this time.
Sincerely,
Charlie Hutto Jr., family, and Stephanie Mountain and family

August 31, 2015

Mark & Bill and families, on the behalf of my family (Betty and Jean (and Rivers Buford)), sending my condolences on the loss of your dad.

Guy Bostick was a great guy. When he visited Tallahassee for the Legislature session, he came by to my dad's office with his long-time friend, retired Major Clay Keith (FHP). My dad loved to hear their stories in their early years like in FHP and how did Guy started his trucking business (went from 1 truck to 3,000 trucks today). I remembered to see them in my dad's office when I came to work there, and my dad was telling me about their stories, which was real good. That's thing I won't forget.

My condolences,

Bob Webb, son of Tom B. Webb, Jr. (retired FTA President and former Secretary of FL DOT)
