MOISES GARZA Obituary

MOISES GARZA, SR.
MCALLEN - Moises Garza, Sr., 85, entered eternal rest on Friday, February 26, 2010, at Doctors Hospital at Renassiance in Edinburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Garza; one daughter, Emma San Juanita; brothers, Frank Garza and Abundio Garza; two sisters, Lilia Chapa and Berta Longoria.
In 1943 at the age of 18 he joined the Army. His first mission was in Normandy, France in 1944. He continued to fight through the Netherlands and Belgium. Moises fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded in 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medals.
He was a member of the VFW Post 8788 in McAllen, VFW Post 3895 in La Joya, DAV Raul Lopez Chapter 95 in McAllen, and Catholic War Veterans Post 1065 in Mission.
Moises was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 yrs in McAllen and California.
He lived life to the fullest and never let things bring him down. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his nine children, Rose Anna (Larry) Wilson of McAllen,Texas; Martha (Hector) Garza of Brazoria, Tx., Alma Y. Garza of Mission, Jose A. (Dalinda) Garza of Mission, Texas, Moises (Gina) Garza, Jr. of Anitoch, Ca., Orlando Garza of San Rafael, Ca., Nelda (Raul) Vasquez of Fremont, Ca., Jesus (Griselda) Garza of Sunnyvale, Ca. and Minerva Garza-Chavez(Victor Manuel) of Newark, Ca.; two sisters, Adalia Leal and Josefina Saenz; 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Flores Chapel in Mission. Funeral mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Flores Funeral Home of Mission.

Dad - I still can't believe you're gone! I woke up at Rose's this morning and realized that I didn't have to rush out to the hospital because that's about the only time I stay at Rose's. I love you and miss you very much. Give mom a great big hug for us.

I am sorry to hear that Tio Moises passed away, he was actually my cousin. I am the daughter of Fidencio Salinas. My dad was Moises uncle. I have fond memories of visits I made with my father and mother to visit Moises and Emma. God Bless your family. May Moises rest in peace and you are in our prayers.
