DOROTHY MORGAN Obituary

DOROTHY STEELE MORGAN
McALLEN - Dorothy Steele Morgan passed from this world on September 25th, 2010 in McAllen, Texas. Dorothy, name meaning gift of God, was born August 13th, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Edna Van Ramshorst. Dorothy moved to McAllen, Texas in 1931. Dorothy was a graduate of McAllen High School class of 1943. Following graduation and World War II she married Airman Galen Steele and soon relocated to Galen's hometown of Los Angeles, California. Dorothy started a family of four in McAllen, Texas and later relocated to California where she started collecting recipes which began a culinary expedition of greatness. She was very proud of winning national sales award recognition for Beeline fashions and doing this on a part-time basis. She was a Cub Scout den mother and Sunday school teacher. She loved the family cabin in Apple Valley, California.
Dorothy would return to McAllen, Texas in 1971. Dorothy took up real estate for her profession and met many wonderful people who remained dear to her. A half a dozen years passed before she remarried following the death of her first husband. She married Abe Morgan and moved to San Juan, Texas where they stayed for 27 years before moving back to McAllen in 2007. While in San Juan, Dorothy was active with the Alamo Lutheran Church. AARP and hospice care. She threw many dinner parties during this time.
Following the passing of her second husband in 2009 Dorothy's health began to decline. Even in decline she remained mentally sharp with a clear wit and still loved to cook for her brother John, friend Maxie, and nieces Dona and Lindsey. She regularly baked for her neighbors. In her last months she loved feeding the doves on her patio.
Grieving the early loss of this soul will be children: Galen Steele Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gale Steele of Bastrop, Texas, Marshall Steele of Elgin, Texas and Roger Steele of Austin, Texas. Her brothers: John Van Ramshorst of McAllen, Texas and Jacob Derk of Sugarland, Texas, a number of nieces, nephews, grand-children, two great-grandchildren and a myriad of doves, In the past few years Dona Lee and Donald Van Ramshorst were angels with helping hands to Dorothy. Dorothy had many friends, many of who have passed on, but her friendship to Maxie Stapleton was very special, even sharing the same birthday. A special thanks to Juanita Navarro for helping our mother in such a great capacity in her final days.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home of Pharr at 10:00am.
Services are entrusted to Skinner-Silva Funeral Home of Pharr.

We were all saddened and surprised to hear that the woman we had known for so many years was no longer there. We are praying for you, knowing that God's grace and her memory will sustain you in a time that, even though we all know it is coming, is nevertheless painful and unexpected. Rest assured that you were all in her heart and were her great pleasure in life.
