Kenneth Damschroder Obituary

Kenneth William Damschroder

FREMONT: Kenneth William Damschroder passed into eternal life on March 25, 2015.

He left this earth peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born in Toledo on February 2, 1931 to Mary (Neason) and Kenneth Damschroder of Elmore. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Smith on June 18, 1949.

Ken was a delivery man for Tony's Bakery and Nickles Bakery for over 40 years. He was fondly known as "Big Bread" and was loved by his customers. He was a self-taught handyman, carpenter, and cook and loved to volunteer his skills for a variety of fundraising efforts for the Ballville Township Fire Department and the Fremont Athletic Foundation. Above all, Ken was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.

Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway, where he served as Financial Secretary for more than 40 years. He was a charter member of the Ballville Township Volunteer Fire Department, helping to establish the department in 1957. He was named Firefighter of the Year in 2010 by the Fremont Exchange Club. Ken was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the Sons of the American Legion. Ken was a longtime blood donor for the American Red Cross, and was recognized as a member of the 400 Club for having contributed over 400 units of blood.

Ken is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Patricia; son, David of Sarasota, FL and Ruthann (David) House of Fremont; grandchildren, Jacob and David Damschroder and Andrew and Alex House; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Sachs and Janet Shellhammer; and brother, Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John.

Friends and family will be received at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 4 pm until 7 pm. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3077 County Road 170, Fremont (Kingsway) on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11 am, with a one hour visitation at 10 am with Pastor Jody Rice officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
