Duane Paull Obituary

Paull, Duane

Duane R. Paull, 84, of Oshkosh, passed away on August 19, 2013 at Eden Meadows Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Duane was born on May 27th, 1929 in Eagle River, to Frood and Beulah Paull. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret (Peggy) Marshall on June 1st, 1952 in West Lima. He attended UW-Platteville and Marquette University, and obtained his Doctorate in Mathematics from Columbia University in New York City. He taught high school math in West Bend, and was a math professor at the Universities of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and Eau Claire. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army as a member of the Military Police.

Duane enjoyed square dancing and round dancing with Peggy and golfed many rounds during the 20 years which he and loving spouse wintered in Florida. Duane and Peggy also hosted multiple family gatherings at their Pelican Lake cottage each summer, so between the three residences, he became an admirable handyman.

Duane is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy, Oshkosh; sons David (Mary) of Brown Deer, Dean (Kathy) of Union Grove, and Doug (Jill) of Cottage Grove; sister Edna Davies of Kenosha; 5 grandchildren, Kyle, Kelly, Trevor, Mitchell, and Michael; and 4 great-grandchildren. Duane is further survived by 3 nieces and a nephew.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home (Westside) with the Rev. John Hobbins officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The graveside committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 at Vernon Cemetery, Union, WI

Memorials may be given to the American Parkinson Disease Association (http://www.apdaparkinson.org).

Duane's family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Aurora Medical Center for their care, kindness, and support during his final days.

Stan and I both recall Duane as a genuinely nice guy---one who could put anyone at ease. I also recall that he lent me math ed resources that he had gathered from workshops with leaders in the field. He was a kind and generous colleague.

Duane was a kind and considerate colleague at UWEC. I enjoyed working with him on department issues and projects. He was a very well respected teacher by both staff and students. He contributed greatly to the profession and will be missed.

We will miss you. I loved our Badger Football conversations. I loved our Pelican Lake visits and playing cards in Florida. I will miss sharing Peeps with you during Easter visits in Florida. Please give my Grandpa a hug up there. We all just gained another guardian angel. RIP Uncle Duane.
