Margaret Salisbury Obituary

Margaret B. Salisbury

Passed away peacefully on May 28, 2011. She was born on June 21, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA to Robert "Al" and Helen Branton. She grew up in Culver City, CA, where she enjoyed frequent movie star encounters during the glory days of Hollywood.
As a young woman, she met and married Gail Salisbury. She and Gail had a son, Randy, and a daughter, Leslie. In 1960 they moved to Olympia, WA. Margaret and Gail divorced in 1979.
Margaret enjoyed her life as a homemaker, and was especially devoted to her sisters in her beloved PEO Chapter Y. She helped out with Randy's Cub Scout pack, and led Leslie's Campfire Girls group. For many years Margaret served as the "School Savings Lady" for Capital Savings. Each Tuesday she traveled to every grade school in the county, collecting and tracking school children's bank deposits. When the program was discontinued, she went on to become a bank teller for Capital Savings, which later became Great American Bank. She also loved her church life, attending the Olympia United Methodist Church, where she helped start a clown ministry, and leading the choir at the Tumwater Methodist Church.
When Margaret retired, she moved to Wetumka, OK in order to take care of her mother. Margaret relished her new life in Wetumka, where she started a church choir at the Christian Church, led the choir at the United Methodist Church, and played the piano at both. She also looked after many children as part of an after school program for kids whose parents were at work. Margaret was especially proud that she and her brother, Bob, were able to help fund a community park for Wetumka in memory of their parents.
Margaret was deeply proud of her heritage and loved to tell stories about her ancestors, including Ethan Allen and William Young. She had a passion for mystery novels and history. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children Randy (and Jayne) Salisbury and Leslie (and Gary) Demich; her brother Robert Branton; her niece, D'Lynn Branton; her grandchildren Justin (Minh) Salisbury, Erik (Katie) Salisbury, Kyle Demich and Shannan (Jose) Laudet, as well as her great-grandchildren, Leather and Kaiona Laudet. She is also survived by her wonderful godmother, Margaret Randall.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4th, 2011, at the Wetumka United Methodist Church. Margaret's family asks that donations be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
