Bruce LeGREE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Nov. 2 to Nov. 3, 2013.
Bruce Michael LeGree
July 26, 1929 – October 27, 2013
Today the world is a less vibrant place without Bruce but we know heaven is rejoicing.
Predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Kathleen and brother Paul LeGree.
Bruce will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Heather; daughters Leone Goodheart (Jim), Kerry LeGree Mitchell (Bill); and sons Bruce LeGree (Corinne) and Phil LeGree (Sonia); sisters Yvonne McLellan, Leone Carlile (Jack); sisters-in-law Margaret LeGree and Dawn Gibson; grandchildren Stephen, Alexandra, Cole and Ben. Many more nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Bruce.
Bruce was born in Vancouver and started his schooling (grades 1 & 2) attending Little Flower Academy with his sisters Yvonne and Leone. Yes...we can explain.
From an early age music was his passion and he learned to play by ear after the nuns failed to teach him. His gift of music provided years of entertainment with family and friends. He went on to continue his schooling and graduated from Vancouver College. At age 17, Bruce had a "calling" and spent a year with the Franciscan Monks in Edmonton. Bruce thought he had some good ideas, however the monks suggested that maybe his ideas were a bit too progressive.
After Edmonton he worked with his pal Greg, at Collier Motors for a number of years before starting a sales career with Dominion Directories. Advertising was in his blood and he worked his way up to General Sales Manager at CJOR Radio.
Bruce changed the face of the media industry by hiring Barbara Welsh, one of Canada's first female radio sales reps at CJOR Radio.
He eventually formed a successful advertising agency which afforded him the honor of working with some of the most respected people in the industry, including Red Robinson and his best friend Steve Vrlak.
Bruce was both loved and respected by all who were lucky enough to know him and he will always be remembered for his quick wit, tremendous sense of humour, generosity and absolute loyalty to family and friends. Like he always said "Cuz you're my everythin".
We are so grateful for the exceptional, compassionate care given by the Doctors and staff of Lions Gate Hospital. Many thanks to Inglewood Care Centre for 3 years of loving care given by the staff and with so much dignity his final care at Kiwanis Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Society.
Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church, 595 Keith Rd., West Vancouver. Reception to follow at West Vancouver Yacht Club, 5884 Marine Dr, West Vancouver.

Heather - Phil & I send you our deepest sympathies at this difficult time. Please pass on our condolences also to Phil and all the family. Bruce was a wonderful and talented gentleman who always had a ready smile, a twinkle in his eye and loved to make others happy. He was a joy to be around. We know he will be missed by many. We would definitely have been at the service but we have been out of the country. Hold on to your precious memories, Heather and take special care.

I am sorry to just hear about Bruce today, and missed the service. I would have been there. Heather my thoughts and strength go out to you. I have such fond memories of Bruce and all the good times he and Darwin shared. Bruce even helped me get my first job. I loved when he played the piano with such enjoyment. I am sure he and Darwin are catching up on old times.

Lots of Hugs,Diane.

Memories form such a large part of healing after losing a person like Bruce.
My memories go back to the late forties in our teen years when I knew Bruce as a good looking gregarious person who lived on Maple Street and was always so good to know and share time with. Haven't seen Bruce since those days but his passing takes me back to those times and such great memories. All of Bruce's family and friends will now enjoy their fondest of memories which will never leave them. ciao Bruce.

Bruce and family - my heart goes out to you and your extended family. I used to be a devoted CJOR listener and had no idea of your father's interesting history. Very cool. What a wonderful father he was. Much love from all of the Janyk family.
