Frank "Sonny Boy" Booker, 87, of Vacaville, and longtime Vallejo resident, was called home after a brief illness on Saturday.
He was born in Monroe, La., to the late Janie and George Booker. He found Christ at an early age.
Frank was a World War II veteran who served three years in the United States Army. After moving to Vallejo, he worked for Benicia Arsenal, Mare Island, and retired from Travis Air Force Base after 30 years of employment. He was also a member of the Navy City Elks in the city of Vallejo.
Frank enjoyed his sports: boxing, golf and tennis. He was very passionate about watching his children and grandkids play baseball and football; he was at every single game they played. He gave his undying love to his family.
Frank was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Darnell Booker and Terry Eugene Booker; and granddaughter, Marketha "Keta" Allison.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lillie; his children, Thelma Ridges, Cheryl Lynn Booker-Welsh, Patricia Ann Booker-Minix, George G. Booker, Frank Anthony (Sharon) Booker and Eric Van Booker; and more than 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, not to mention a host of loving friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 5 from 3 to 8 p.m. Services to be held Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., both at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, 524 Capitol St., Vallejo, Calif. Burial to follow at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo, Calif.

Frank Booker was a phenomenal man who indeed loved his family! Before I ever met him, I knew of him looking thru chain link fence, watching his youngest son play ball until he absolutely had to leave for work. Quite remarkable! It was truly a gift to give him the grandchild he feared he would never meet. A strong man whose spirit whispered to me at every meeting. His smile that could brighten any room is one of those permanent images you don't lose. Alfred Lord Tennison wrote in his Ulysses: "I am a part of all that I have met." Anyone who knew Frank Booker has a peace of his significance to carry with them. Praise be to God for cradling our sweet Frank -- husband, father, dad, grandfather and friend to His bosom as he enters into salvation. A special prayer for Lillie Booker, may the Lord lift her and carry her and her children during this difficult time.
Until we meet again,
