Matthew Schembra Obituary

Oct. 9, 1978 - Oct. 16, 2010

Our hearts hurt to announce that Matthew James Schembra passed away suddenly on Oct. 16. Matt just celebrated his 32nd birthday, Oct. 9, with his loving family and friends. You could not find a better friend, brother, or son than Matt Schembra. His loyalty, thoughtfulness, and love could be felt whenever his blue eyes sparkled with smiles. Matt loved the Miami Dolphins, Karate flicks, his dog Dana, and working at The Reporter in Vacaville. He enjoyed challenging puzzles and was an avid gamer. Matt was such a giving person that you could count on for help and he would always amaze you by how creative his solutions were.

His patience, understanding, and integrity made him a man you admired. Matt had courage in his convictions and the tolerance of a peacemaker. Matt loved his family and friends with such pride we feel honored to be cared for so deeply.

The Schembra family asks that you celebrate his life as a life well lived in love, a love that touched us all so sweetly, and continue that feeling by doing a random act of kindness in Matthew's honor.

Matt was a quiet, gracious guy who never lost his cool under fire. He was the glue that held the advertising department together when we ad reps pleaded to get just one more ad squeezed in before a run. You're going to be missed by this former ad rep. I'm so happy to have had the privilege to work with you.

Oh Matt! I will never forget when you came on board at The Reporter. Your cubicle had a sexy girl calendar, and you were told to take it down. We always knew when you would cover Linda (Klemens) at the front desk, due to the mangled paper clips that you would leave. You were always easy and fun to talk to, and always good for a laugh. I can hardly believe that your Life here is already done. Rest in Peace, Friend.

I met Matthew a few times when he visted his Mother. His warmth, kindness and the love of his family was apparent. His life was a true gift to all who came in contact with him. My prayers to Matthew's wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and sister. May they find solace knowing Matthew will be watching over them with his loving smile. Love never ends.

Matt "Schembrosia" Schembra,
My friend, my game guru buddy, my movie go-to guy. You were taken from us too early. Your smiles and laughter were always a welcoming sight. The most memorable expression from you was your "What?!?" when a person said something that you didn't agree with (Ex. Transformers Revenge of the Fallen sucked). I will miss the times we shared playing video games during our lunch breaks at your place, going to Winco to get grub or pizza from Leonardo's. I will miss your astounding knowledge about epic movies-even though you disliked Harry Potter.
Everyday at work was a blast with you. When you did have those precious days off, the gang was wondering what you'd be doing. Of course, I would know. It would either be on your Warcraft or Playstation 3. Whatever the case may be, you did things your way. I'm grateful to have known you. You are a living Super Hero. I, the rest of the "gang" and many many other will sorely miss you. To your family, who you've helped and supported countless times, may they know that your deeds and achievements will not be fogotten.

Matt was the definition of quiet dignity. Never one for the spotlight, Matt handled himself with class and determination. He is gone too, too soon. I'm proud to have known him, and blessed to have shared some happy moments with him.

My heart goes out to Matt's family. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
