Shirley Lamphere Obituary
Shirley was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Creal Springs, the daughter of William and Pearl (Needham) Murphy. She married Edward J. Dempsey in Southgate, Calif., and he preceded her in death. She was later married Lewis Lamphere, and he survives in Marion.
She was a homemaker. Shirley was a member of First Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Marion. She especially loved to bowl in her league at Herrin Bowl.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Lamphere of Marion; five children, Brenda Mathis and her husband, the Rev. Leslie Mathis of Fenton, Mo., Michael E. Dempsey and wife, Joan, of Herrin, Randall L. Dempsey of Herrin, Sue Atkins of St. Louis, and Timothy J. Dempsey of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Freida Campbell of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edward Dempsey; brothers, Billy Joe Murphy and Bill Murphy; and sister, Alma Smith.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, in Marion First Apostolic Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Ron Walls officiating. Burial will be in Creal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
