Genevieve McGee Obituary

JOHNSTON CITY -- Genevieve (Goodman) McGee, 88, passed away at 3:18 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, in Herrin Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Genevieve was born May 16, 1922, in Johnston City to Raymond and Alma (Burlison) Goodman. She married Melvin L. "Buster" McGee on June 16, 1942, in Piggott, Ark. Buster preceded her in death Jan. 12, 2000. Together they shared 58 years of marriage.

Genevieve was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her husband, Buster, and her family. She always made her family her first priority above herself. Genevieve also took care and raised her siblings after her parents passed away at an early age. She had lived in the same home since the age of 13. She was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City, and had been attending Christian Covenant Church in Carterville. She enjoyed reading and socializing with her network of family and friends.

Survivors include three children, Linda Gamble and husband, Charles, of Johnston City, Butch McGee and wife, Phylis, of Johnston City, Debbie Corbin and husband, Allen, of Lake of Egypt; five grandchildren, Greg and Tammy Gamble of Creal Springs, Darin and Barbara Lopez of Hope Mills, N.C., Megan Jordan and husband, Robert, of Towson, Md., Brian McGee and fiancée, Connie Smith, of Johnston City, Sara McGee of Johnston City; two great-grandchildren, Braden Lee McGee of Johnston City, Zack Smith of Johnston City; a sister, Alta Labotte of Johnston City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Gordon, Douglas, Val, Ray Goodman; and one sister, Betty White.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. Bill Schell and Brother Ralph Brandon officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.
