Kevin McKeon Obituary

WALLINGFORD - Kevin W. McKeon, 68, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Nancy J. Such McKeon, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Born in Torrington, July 14, 1942, a son of the late Eugene R McKeon and the late Marcia Wicks McKeon, he had been a resident of Torrington and Cheshire, before moving to Wallingford. Kevin was a graduate of Cheshire High School class of 1960. He furthered his education at Southern Connecticut State University and earned his bachelor's degree and master's in science degree. He was a veteran of the U S. Army having served in Alaska during the Vietnam War. He was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation for 25 years, before retiring in 1997, as a materials storage supervisor. Shortly after his retirement Kevin experienced breathing problems, which had created limitations on his life more and more as time progressed. In May of 2010, Kevin was hospitalized and never improved since that time. With his devoted wife and daughter by his side, he struggled for many months to this inevitable conclusion.

Besides his wife Nancy, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer A. Hurley and her husband, Scott, of Wallingford; his brother, Eugene R. McKeon and his wife, Tracy, of Torrington; his grandniece, Jennifer Marie McKeon; and many dear loyal friends. He was predeceased by his nephew, "Ricky" Eugene R. McKeon, III.

His family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Richard Giosa and the nurses and staff of the MidState Medical Center, Gaylord Hospital, and the Visiting Nurse Association of Wallingford for their excellent care, kindness and patience.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday, from 1 until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m., from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Bridget Church in Cheshire, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Wallingford Animal Shelter, 5 Pent Road, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the charity of one's choice.

Dear Nancy, Jennifer and family: Bob and I are simply broken hearted to have lost a dear friend. Kevin was that kind and gentle soul, with his dry humor, that twinkle in his eye and so much love in his heart. His one line remarks could have us laughing for hours. His love of animals and his love of Nancy and Jennifer made his face light up when he spoke of them. He fought long and hard to be with his family for as long as he could. He lived to walk Jen down th aisle at her wedding, a goal he strived for. He never once complained, he just dealt with the treatments, the difficulty, the feeding tube when he would have killed for a cheeseburger, french fries, a slice of pizza or some chocolates. He kept his sense of humor and used it on us often. Kevin dear friend, you will be missed so very much and never forgotten. "And he will raise you up on eagle's wings, bare you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hands." And finally dear friend, you can breath, big, deep breaths of pure fresh air. Thank you God.
With all our love,
Bob and Lindsay Paolillo
