TODD HINDS Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jun. 17 to Jun. 20, 2015.
Todd William Hinds
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Todd, on Saturday June 13, 2015 in Saskatoon. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many around the world. On December 5, 1967, Todd was born to Brian and Irene Hinds. He had great passion and love for his family, friends, pets, music, dance and sports. A gifted athlete from the age of 4, with his father as his mentor and personal coach, Todd pursued several sports and always excelled. Hockey was his first, but by the age of 12, the other boys began to grow too big for Todd to compete with. Todd then discovered wrestling; a sport he could compete in pound for pound. Todd excelled in wrestling, from Hammarskjold High School to the University of Manitoba. After graduation, he began assistant coaching with the U of M. He then accepted the position of head coach with the University of Saskatchewan. Todd's career took off. He continued his studies to become a Master Coach. Todd coached for seventeen years. While not coaching the U of S team, he started coaching the Canadian National Women's Team. He travelled the world with his athletes. His personal and professional goal was to go to the Olympics. In 2004, he was the assistant coach for the women's Canadian team in Athens, Greece. Canada's Tonya Verbeek won the silver medal in her weight category. The wrestling world was part of Todd's family. The athletes were his children, who he loved and cared for as he would for his own. Aside from wrestling, he was fanatical about golfing. If he wasn't playing golf with one of his many sets of clubs, the TV was literally on the golf channel, 24-7. His favourite golf buddy was his father. Todd will be forever loved and missed by his mother, Irene Hinds, sister Heather Lynn (Pouru), brother in-law Jari Pouru, and his special nieces Ashley and Heidi Pouru. Todd was predeceased by his mentor, Brian Hinds. Funeral Services will be held Monday June 22, 2015, at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Services will commence at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Todd's life and career will take place in Saskatoon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies "Coach Todd Hinds Memorial Awards in Wrestling," would be greatly appreciated. Our dearest Todd has gone golfing with his Dad. My deepest condolences to Todd's family and friends. I knew Todd through wrestling, initially at Thunder Bay's Lakehead University and later as a dedicated coach. Todd was a quality training partner who always had a smile on his face. He made us laugh often with his jokes and antics. A hard worker who's passion lead to much success. He passed these qualities onto others who knew him. While this is tremendously sad news, Todd inspired many to enjoy life by doing their best. His impact will live on in the many lives he touched. Glad to have known him.

Todd was a "neat little guy", and was one of the good guys... This is a huge loss, and my thoughts are with his family, and with his friends, wrestling friends in Saskatoon, the huskies, and all those in the world who knew Todd through wrestling. What a kind, generous person, a shining light. His spirit will live on, with his athletes on the mat, and for all of those who were privileged to know Todd. You will be missed little Todd... Dwayne
