Maria Freeland Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Mar. 3, 2018.
FREELAND, Maria Lynn August 4, 1962 (Prince Albert, SK) February 25, 2018 (Calgary, AB) It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our mother and wife, Maria Lynn Freeland on February 25, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Ron Czemeres; by her three children, Amanda (Brandon), Victoria (Eric), and Nicholas Krishan; by her mother and father, Bruce and Jean Freeland; by her sister, Gwen Banks (Shawn); and by her niece and nephew, Megan (Tanner) and Thomas Latzkowski. Maria Lynn Freeland received a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University in 1983, a Bachelor of Law from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 1986, and was currently a candidate for a Masters of Law from the University of Saskatchewan. She received many awards including the E.M. Culliton Scholarship from the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 2010, 2011, and 2012, and the International Graduate Scholarship from the University of Tasmania School of Law in 1985. In her professional practice, she worked as a Crown Prosecutor in Meadow Lake from 2007-2010; a Local Registar for Court of Queens Bench from 2002-2007; and a Lawyer and Mediator for Mills-Wilcox-Zuk Law Office in Prince Albert from 1986-2002. In recent years, she married her husband, Ron, and moved to Calgary. Together they enjoyed attending art galleries, fine dining, and spending time with their dog Reggie. Maria Lynn will always be remembered for her outgoing and bubbly personality. She taught her children the importance of treating others with respect and giving back to those in need. Maria Lynn was an amazing mother. She was a supportive parent who was always involved in her children's education and activities. She was very proud of her children, who will miss her tremendously. Maria Lynn Freeland will be missed greatly by her family and friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. There will be a memorial service held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary United Church, 114 25 St E, Prince Albert, SK S6V 1S5.

My deepest condolences to Maria-Lynn's family. I just found out about her passing because I was going to touch base with her again. We were extremely good friends at Carleton University and went on many ski trips together when I ran the ski club there, which she was my ski buddy for. We went to university ski club parties, danced and had so much fun together. I can still see her with her ski headband on, which was very similar to mine, making us a pair of giggling bookends back then. The last time I saw Maria Lynn she had come to Ottawa to visit. She had stopped in at Carleton to pick up tiny university logo sweatshirts for her very young children, who she clearly adored. We got together for a long time during that visit and shared many laughs even then. I had no idea Maria Lynn had moved to Calgary and we also moved to Calgary in 1997. We have been here since then and I would have loved to have spent time with Maria Lynn had I known. I thought she was still in Prince Albert and we were planning to one day drive there to visit her. This is such a huge loss of a beautiful, sweet, positive and joyful friend. I am so saddened. My heart goes out to her children, parents and husband who I know must still be devastated by the loss of such a wonderful, sweet person.

I was so saddened to hear of Maria Lynn's passing and my deepest sympathies to Victoria, Amanda, and Nicholas. I had the privilege of working with your mom at Mills, Wilcox, and Zuk in Prince Albert. She was wonderful to work with and such a great and caring mom. I will forever treasure her in my heart.

To the Freeland/Krishan family -- so sorry to hear of Maria Lynn's passing. Although we had not stayed in touch after she moved to Alberta, I thought of her often, usually remembering some good advice she had given to me over the years. We shared experiences as working moms, as councillors, and as mid-life grad students. We joked that we would be standing in our walkers together when the city finally got around to putting our names on street signs. She was a beautiful, spirited person who will continue to be thought of often.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of an accomplished gal....Lynn and I were "Jobie sisters" during our teen years (Job's Daughters) and spent many happy hours together in service to the community of Prince Albert. Since that time, she went on to have a family and accomplish the many goals she set for herself. She will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of (as I knew her) Lynn's passing. We were colleagues at Saskatchewan Youth Parliament. I remember her as bright and energetic, a true trailblazer.

I'm so sorry to hear of the death of your loved one and my deepest condolences are extended to you. Something that's helped me through the death of loved ones is to reflect on 1 Corinthians 15:26.
