Howard Portwood Obituary

HOWARD PORTWOOD

ELDRED — Howard J. Portwood, 85, of Eldred, died on Monday morning Feb. 22, 2016 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin.

Born in Calhoun County on Feb. 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Louis E. and Virginia Dirksmeyer Portwood. He married the former Wanda Jean Ruyle, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1997.

Surviving are his sons: Rod Portwood and Jeff Portwood, both of Eldred, two grandchildren, Cody and Shannon, and a brother, Omar Portwood of Carrollton.

Howard was an electrician at Laclede Steel in Alton for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Graveside rites will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday Feb. 26 at Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Eldred. Memorials may be made to the Eldred American Legion. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
