Americo Brigido Obituary

Americo A. "Tony" Brigido, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday at the Loyalton Assisted Living Center. His wife, the former Janet Reese Brigido, died Aug. 29, 2006.

Born in Old Forge on Aug. 20, 1922, son of the late Peter and Rose Gabello Brigido, he resided in West Scranton for 54 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Service Badge, the EAME Theater service medal with four bronze stars and the Victory Medal. He served in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. Prior to his retirement, he was a member of Local 158, Heavy and Highway Workers Union.

Surviving are a son, Stephen Brigido and wife, Ann Marie, Hagerstown; and a daughter, Diane McClellan and husband, Robert, Breingsville; a brother, Phillip Brigido, Ohio; two sisters, Edith Stassi and Marie Cardillo, both of Old Forge; a grandson, Dr. Stephen Brigido and wife, Dr. Gina, Bethlehem; a granddaughter, Adrianne Brigido Van Scoyoc and husband, Jonathan, Philadelphia; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Isabelle Brigido; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Guy and Tucker Brigido; and three sisters, Etha Tagliaterra, Mattie Monelli and Ann Brigido.

Funeral services and committal prayers are scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, to be conducted by the Rev. Carl Brigido.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, from 10 until the time of service. Interment, Old Forge Cemetery.
