Jack Oakey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2017.
Jack Oakey, 74, of Throop, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lucille Reineke Oakey; a daughter, who thought the world of him, Susan Oakey Shapiro and her husband, Joel Shapiro; three grandchildren, that were the lights of his life, Trooper Aaron John Shapiro, Noah Abraham Shapiro and Sadie Marie Shapiro; his sister, Joan Oakey Chrisman and her husband, Frank; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Oakey. He will also be greatly missed by his King Charles Spaniel, Jacob, his buddy.

Known to many as "Tall Oakes," he was a Pennsylvanian State Police trooper for 25 years, and also spent 17 years as security at the Federal Building in Scranton. He spent his retirement years in his garden, which he loved, and going to the movies with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Throop United Methodist Church, the FOP and the Free Masons Kingsbury Lodge 466. He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.

A viewing is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop.

The funeral is planned for Thursday, Nov. 2, beginning at 10 a.m. from the Throop United Methodist Church, Throop.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Throop United Methodist Church or the Red Cross. Send online condolences to [email protected].

Lucille and family, " Oakey was to gardening what Ted Williams was to hitting a baseball." Bob, another neighbor, quoted while we shot the breeze admiring his garden. He was even prouder of the family he grew. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sincerely, Mike, the groundskeeper from Penn State
