Allen Anke Obituary

Allen E. Anke, 73, of Hawley, died Sunday at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Shirley L. Rollison. The couple married July 2, 1960.

Born Oct. 24, 1936, at the family home in Scranton, he was the son of the late William G. and Lydia Farnham Anke. He was a graduate of Hawley High School and was a Navy veteran who served during peacetime. For 52 years, Allen was a foreman for the state Game Commission, working out of Rileyville.

Allen was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hawley and a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood, serving as president. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and was the former deputy game warden. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was proud to share his knowledge of wildlife with the Boy Scouts. Allen dedicated his whole life to wildlife.

Also surviving are a sister, Sandra DeMany and husband, Roger, Paupack; a sister-in-law, Gladys Gibbons and husband, Leroy, Hawley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale, by the Rev. Ken Buckwalter of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery.

Friends may visit Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. Condolences can be made at www.hes slingfuneralhome.com.
