Fred D. Hoffman, 88, passed away on March 7, 2015, at Langdon Place, Keene, N.H., with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan Prall Hoffman, in January 2010.

Born in Shamokin, Pa., Fred was publicly schooled until graduating from Scranton Technical High School. He served in the Navy Seabees in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his return, he continued his education at Keystone College, Wilkes University and ultimately received his M.A. in theology from Boston University. He entered the ministry, with his first congregation in Troy, N.H., at the Trinitarian Congregational Church. After time in New Hampshire, he moved to Northern New Jersey, joined the Greater New Jersey United Methodist Conference and served in many towns throughout his long ministry.

He is survived by his children, Deb Leopold and husband, Ross, Johnson, N.Y.; Stephen Hoffman and wife, Carrie, Keene, N.H.; and Paul Hoffman and wife, Allison Riley, Keene, N.H.; four grandchildren, Kayla, Alexandra, Emma and Sam, all of Keene, N.H.

Fred will be most remembered by his family and friends as infinitely patient and kind.

The funeral will be Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services LLC, 602 Birch St., Scranton, PA 18505. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
