Pauline Compton Obituary

MEBANE, N.C. - Pauline "Polly" Vincent Compton entered into everlasting life on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center. Mrs. Compton had been in declining health for the past seven months and had spent the winter months in Winston-Salem with her daughter, Pat.
Polly had been involved in community and county activities for many years. She served as a Registrar on the Board of Elections for Carr Precinct for more than 35 years. She severed as chairperson for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Warren Memorial Clinic in Prospect Hill. She was a member of Mt. Adar Baptist church, where she served a President and other positions of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. In recent years, she attended Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, the church she attended before her marriage.
Mrs. Compton was born April 20, 1924 in Alamance County and was the youngest daughter of the late Donald Murray and Florence Blanchard Vincent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Mercer Compton, in 1974; brother, William Wallace Vincent; sister, Cora Vincent Richmond; and infant son, Donald Edward Compton.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Compton of Winston-Salem; son, Thomas Compton and wife Trudy Kale Compton of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Ruth Vincent Copley of Mebane; and grandsons, Andrews Christopher Compton of Tokyo, Japan and Philip Kale Compton of Greenwich Village, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane and at other times at the family home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2 in the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads Presbyterian Church General Fund, 3202 N. Hwy. 119, Mebane, NC 27302 or a charity of your choice.

I will always remember Polly as a kind and gracious lady. As you, Tom and I grew together over the years I have many fond memories of Polly , Howard, Mr Clyde, and Miss Etta. Unfortunately,
this is just another piece of history which will be missing in the community of Carr. Not many of the former Carr families left. Sorry Curtis and I are not able to be with you at this time as we are on vacation. Our love and prayers are with you.
