Raymond Lofton Obituary

In Memory of Raymond Comeo Lofton, Jr. Raymond was born in Phoenix, Arizona June 2, 1972. He passed away on February 19, 2010 in Eureka at the home of a friend. Raymond was born to Debbie Yunyon and Raymond Comeo Lofton, Sr. His mother Debbie preceded him in death. He was raised in Humboldt County. As Community Service Director of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, I met Raymond over 4 years ago. We have an outreach ministry to the homeless of our community. We make sack lunches and take them out in the field all along the waterfront each week. Raymond was a real blessing to us. He would always tell us where people were who needed help. He introduced us to 'the tombs' where a lady needed medical help and dry clothes and personal items. Because of Raymond's care and concern for her, she was taken to the hospital for help and surgery. Raymond was very kind. He ran errands for those not able to go for themselves. He visited all his homeless brothers and sisters almost daily to see if they were o.k. The homeless are a family to each other and they look out for each other. We always put a scripture in each sack lunch. Raymond would always look for it first and stand up real tall and read it out loud to all present. He loved the 'Word'. One morning he told us about a man who had been crying out in pain all night. We found him in tomb #3 or what we call the breezeway. He was cold and wet and had severe myalgia in his feet. He was in terrific pain. Because of Raymond, this man got the help he needed to get back to his family in Tennessee. Raymond had very decided ideas about how he wanted to live. He didn't want to be enclosed in small places, but wanted to be outside to feel the sun and the wind on his face, and cook his food over an open fire. He didn't like a sleeping bag. It was too confining. He was just happy being a free spirit. He told us one day that when he was young, someone had sponsored him to go to our summer camp at Redwood Creek. He said that was the happiest time of his entire life. He described it with great enthusiam - the go-carts, archery, repelling, swimming and horseback riding. He mentioned those memories many times. We were greatly blessed by Raymond and will miss him. We do not want his passing to go without notice. There will be a Memorial Service at the Eureka Seventh-day Adventist Church, at 4251 F Street in the Fireside Room on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be served after the service. To the family and friends of Raymond ,

My wife and I met Raymond when he was 9 as he came to our home for child care along with his brother and sister .

Although many years have passed since we last saw Raymond , we have always hoped for the best for him . We are greatful to him for going above and beyond the call of duty to help many unfortunate people in a way that not very many people could do without his experience .

While we mourn the loss , we rejoice that because of Jesus Christ , He is now in a better place .
