William Eubanks Obituary

William Dale Eubanks The Lord works in mysterious ways, and this must be the reason Dale Eubanks was tragically taken from us in San Felipe, B.C. Mexico, May 15, 2013; therefore to be reunited with the love of his life. William Dale Eubanks was born March 29, 1935 in Longview Washington to Oren (Brig) and Georgia (Rene) Eubanks. He attended three years of high school in Washington before moving to Fort Bragg, CA with his parents, where he graduated in 1953. It was there he met Myrna Daniels, and they both claim it was "love at first sight", but for different reasons. He loved her bubbly personality and infectious smile, while she liked his good looks and strong silent charm. Eventually they eloped, and were married on New Years Day, 1958 in Reno, Nevada. Thus began their wedded bliss of 54 years (and , as Dale insisted, 7 months). Myrna and Dale always said they had the best of both worlds, as they had many friends and attended high school reunions in both states. After graduation Dale worked in his father's lumber mill in Fort Bragg. He served in the army reserve from 1958 to 1964. Dale attended Santa Rosa Junior College before going to Humboldt State University. He received a bachelor's degree and teaching credential in 1966, and later a master's degree in 1969. In 1966, they moved to Fortuna with their two children Eric & Kim. Dale then began teaching business classes at Fortuna Union High School where he stayed 27 years. He also loved coaching football. He enjoyed working with the team, colleagues, and friends Dick Cahill, Matt Kelly, and many others. Dale loved the outdoors and spent much of his private and family time at Ruth Lake, a haven and vacation spot. He never said no to boating and fishing trips. After retiring, Dale and Myrna spent much of their time traveling, exploring places such as China, the British Isles, Scandinavian regions, and Finland. Eventually, they discovered that they both loved Mexico, and retired there in the town of San Felipe, BC where they built a second home, spent most of their time, and made many friends. After Myrna's recent passing, Dale returned to San Felipe, the place he considered "home," to grieve and to heal among friends and familiar surroundings. It was also there he continued to pursue his passion for karaoke. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Myrna. He is survived by his children Eric Dale and Kimberly Carene Eubanks of Fortuna, CA, grandsons Ross Hoffer and Aaron Eubanks, sister and brother-in-laws Donna and Bud Mckee , Tanya and Ronald Sousa, and Lydia and Herman Terry. A celebration of life will be held Sunday June 23rd at the Fortuna Monday Club, 610 Main St. open house/pot luck noon to 4. Anyone wishing to speak about Dale, we will begin presentations around 1:00. Please note a potluck dish is optional, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fortuna Union High School athletic department. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com, click on obits.

Dale (& also Myrna) were our good friends from San Felipe & recently visited also in Fortuna. We will miss them both and are very sad for the recent passing of Dale. I was glad I was able to visit with Dale before we left San Felipe in March and had no idea it would be the last time we would see him. We will always have fond memories of our friends from our neighborhood and from karaoke. Our hearts go out to you both Kim and Eric. We hope to see you sometime later on under happier circumstances. Sorry we couldn't make it this last Sunday to be there but you are in our prayers.

I also had Mr. Eubanks for Bookkeeping classes at Fortuna High. (Class of 66). He was a very inspiring person and teacher. His teachings of bookkeeping have been very helpful through my life and I'm very thankful that our paths in life crossed. May you know family and friends are with you in thought and prayer.

I had Mr. Eubanks for bookkeeping and he was a good teacher. He had a sence of humor yet he made sure you learned. Just a nice teacher and person. To his family you have my sympathies in his passing. R.I.P. Class of 69

To Dale's Family and Friends,

I did not do very well in high school. However, Mr. Eubanks's bookkeeping class was an exception. He taught me the importance of good bookkeeping and I have used his inspiration my entire life.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Sincerely, Patti Fearrien McWhorter (FUHS Class of 69)
