Scott Beattie Obituary

Scott Thomas Beattie, 54, passed away on October 22, 2016 unexpectedly in his home in Longmont, Colorado. Scott was born on July 22, 1962 in Medford, Massachusetts to Donald Thomas Beattie and Thelma Jeanne (nee: Faulkner) Beattie. As a child, Scott played the piano and later the clarinet, as he was a proud and avid member of his Woburn high school's band. Graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a degree in Computer Science. He later attended Northeastern University where he obtained a degree in IT Technology. He pursued a career as a Systems Architect, which sparked his move to Colorado nearly 22 years ago. Scott will be remembered as a thoughtful and loving family member and friend of many. He was dedicated to living each day to the fullest and thrived on keeping in touch with friends and family around the world. Scott spent his free time running 5K's, many of which will be remembered by his Paws in the Park and his Hot Chocolate run recently, exercising with a group of friends and walking Macintosh Lake daily. He was passionate about photography, jam and spaghetti sauce making and was also a connoisseur of donuts and COFFEE. Scott loved the Colorado Rockies not just for the hiking but the nature. He will be remembered as a lifelong learner, always teaching himself something new, such as learning Spanish and Arabic to the point of fluency on his own. Teaching English as a second language was always in Scott's heart and he traveled to the home of those he taught, much to everyone's surprise. He is survived by his aunts Bernice Beattie of Richmond, Quebec, CA and Shirley Lockwood of Ripley, Ontario, CA, and numerous cousins in Canada and in the United States. He will be sorely missed as he became a large part of many families. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 4 PM at the Greenbriar Inn (8735 N. Foothills Highway, Boulder, CO 80302). Donations can be made to the American Heart Association www.heart.org or the Longmont Humane Society www.longmonthumane.org or to the charity of your choice. Scott was my best friend growing up on Grace Road in Woburn. We lived across the street from each other. He was the smartest, kindest, and funniest person I have ever known. The two of us trying desperately to master the clarinet concerto and trying just as desperately to get a tv signal strong enough to watch Monty Python. He was the glue that held our close circle of friends together in High School. My husband loved him as much as I did and before he moved he was always holding one of my boys even though he would swear to me holding children wasn't something he did.I never visited him in his favorite place on earth, his Colorado as he called it and I will regret it forever.
